I am a fan of my b&r 22” two wheeler, but I didn't like the wheels as the wheels are quite loud. I installed 72mm ripstick wheels with 2 nylon washers on each side. It’s a smooth ride now! Bonus, you can cash in your employee discount at the Briggs and Riley store in SLC unlimited times, and there’s no limit as to how many items you have to or don’t have to buy.

This guy on Etsy makes a “fix” for the why-does-my-jhook-keep-falling-out problem for B&R.

I’d put a plug in for Paradox Aviation’s bag as well. I haven’t personally used one but listened to a podcast where they interviewed the creator (pilot/mech engineer). He aimed to solve a lot of the shortcomings of the most popular bags and it seems like a really well thought out bag. Plus, Made in the USA.

I saw one of these in the wild a couple months ago and was tempted to ask the pilot for the nuclear codes held inside

Years ago I moved away from LW to blend in a little more when commuting or vacationing. The indestructible metal frame sorta stood out in the Sky Club. That is no longer a concern...

Is there really a compelling reason to buy a $500 B&R consumer bag that requires mods rather than just embracing luggage that screams aircrew? What is driving the move away from traditional crew luggage brands?

I know lots of people who absolutely love their B&R, so there has to be something to it. That being said, it isnt spending the money that bothers me, but spending the money and having to mod the wheels and the J hook myself that has me apprehensive.

There are workarounds for the j-hook. I used to just hook it into the top strap to keep it from falling off. I have to load my bad in the cabin like a chump (73n life) and it would sometimes come unhooked when passengers grabbed their bags around mine.

The wheels are fine imo.

so much lighter than the LW. And the LW soft front flap bulges out allows my stuff to just move around and collapse to the bottom if I don’t cube it out. Not an issue with the BR.

I like the 'crew screaming luggage'. It works, it looks good. I rock the new carbon fiber one so weight of the traditional one isn't an issue.
