Me and the FO were supposed to fly to ATL, sit 4hrs, then DH back to domicile. We noticed there was an earlier flight back to base with a :20 turn, so we both listed and tried to push and get in early. We did, were first off jet, etc. We packed up our hats, put on our commuter jackets and hustled from B to A to catch our flight. We just missed the train so we sped walked that tunnel. On the escalator up, the other pilot took off his jacket to vent because he was hot and sweaty. Those tunnels get toasty!
I kid you not, seconds later atop the escalator and feet from the A19 crew room hall, a guy in khakis and a button up shirt jumps in front of us waving his arms and telling us to stop (again, we were hustling and weaving because our flight was boarding). I'm still wearing my commuter jacket, but my FO still had his on his suitcase handle, hat in his bag zipper. CPO guy lasers in on FO.
(In a raised voice, scolding tone, angry face): "ATL CPO. Where's your hat? You need to be wearing it."
FO: "I'm so sorry, it's right here. We were rushing to catch our flight..."
"Yeah well, you need to put it on. Now!"
Me to FO :"you can just put your jacket back on.."
Me to CPO: " He took his jacket off a second ago on the escalator and forgot to put it back on. Anyways, we are rushing to catch our flight home. Thanks, we gotta go." Leave CPO behind.
FO stressed and worrying if CP remembered his name from his brass.. ugh. FO just came over here from SWA and in previous cruise chit chat, of course his SWA coworkers knock DL culture, which I had tried to dismiss. I was so embarrassed, and never witnessed that kinda gestapo like behavior. And it wasn't that the CPO approached us, it was this angry, condescending, attitude. Mostly trivial to us that day, but I can believe the worse stories about CPOs and commutes and hats after that interaction.

While no disciplinary action, my NH FO and I were approached by a CPO pilot in plain clothes in ATL last year.

It should speak volumes about our management that they spend their time policing whether I take my hat off in an 80° terminal while paying us incorrectly month after month.

Lol is right. I'd about guarantee there's a lot of context missing, IF that's even an accurate description of what was said. The 'telephone game' is real.
