Okay. Started today and it was awesome. Breakdown as follows:
16 76/75 ATL Domestic
10 76ER JFK
5 73NG NYC.
Those are the no kidding numbers. By the way There are now 7001 pilots at work for Delta with only 200 on furlough!

Wow, interesting. Those on the 76/75 in ATL will be junior for a long time, won't they?

those that stay...yes. I bet a large number of new hires on the 767 and 7ER bail off on the next bid and go back to the 73N or 88.

Reserve sucks. Especially reserve in NYC.

I imagine short call reserve would suck, but how about regular reserve? Isn't domestic a 12 hour show to the gate and international is 24 hours. I live 3.5 hours away from JFK (traffic permitting), so I would hope a 12 or 24 hour response wouldn't be so bad...or at least I hope. Heck, I'm just hoping to get hired!

GBU-24 08-20-2007 04:50 PM

Gladioslave,

How fast did the 76ERs go?

Bucking Bar 08-20-2007 05:21 PM

They went junior on the AE, FWIW.

LOBO 08-20-2007 06:04 PM

"How fast did the 7ER's go?"

Top half of the class was 767 and then only two 7ER's.

80ktsClamp 08-20-2007 06:04 PM

Reserve in ATL is a piece of cake... I've sat 2 months on the ATL767 as bottom guy. I credited 110ish hours in July and it's going to be in the upper 80's this month. As a DTW commuter, I've only had to get one hotel. That was because of an early sign-in a couple weeks ago.

One hotel in two months as plug on reserve, not a single short call, and I've known about all my trips greater than 20 hours in advance... I call that not too bad.

the problem is you can't bid long or short call. You are on reserve. You are on long call unless they assign you a short call. I forget the number, but they can assign you eight short calls a month. The problem in an international category is that short call lasts 24 hours. So, you get short call starting at noon on Monday....you are on short call till noon on Tuesday. That counts as one short call. Then if you don't fly, they can assign you another short call at noon on Wendsday. You see where I am going? You can end up on short call, having to be relatively close by, for almost the entire month.

If you live in the NYC area, great. You just got a job being paid to sit at home waiting to go fly. If you don't live in NYC, you just got a job sitting in a crappy crash pad up to 16 days a month.

There is a reason none of the pilots who are already here want to be on reserve on the ER in NYC.

Having said that, I started out on the panel of the 727. I'd have given anything to fly the ER as a new hire.

Gunfighter 08-20-2007 07:34 PM

Are the ER reserve pilots really sitting that much? I would think that with so many unfilled slots from the last AE that reserve pilots are flying more that sitting. How much do you really sit in New York on ER reserve?

I think they are flying a lot. Odds are pretty good a reserve will be flying a pretty full schedule these days. But if you have four days on call and go out on a three day trip, you may well be assigned a short call on your last day. A reserve pilot is on call 18 days in a 31 day month, and you can pretty much count on flying or being in New York for all 18 of those days.

Great gouge! Thanks for posting that.

Jul/Aug Interviewees,
Interviewing next month. Just looking for any advice/recommendations you may have, that was different from what's already been posted. Thanks!

Split S 08-23-2007 09:13 AM

Which aircraft does Delta type rate it's FO's on, if any?

Bucking Bar 08-23-2007 09:53 AM

Those requiring a relief crewmember 757/767_ER,767-400, 777

I think they type the domestic 757/767 category, but I'm not 100% sure.

Delta types all FOs on the 767, domestic or international.

Info only, but at Delta the domestic 757/767 category is simply called the 767 category. The international 757/767 is called 7ER.

dbtownley 08-23-2007 06:46 PM

Just finished the DAL interview and the gouge out there was "laser" guided. The test has not changed. Be yourself in the interview and study for the job knowledge. 4 of 7 were hired. Good luck.

was there a guy from Omni (DC-10 FO) there? did he get an offer?

dbtownley 08-24-2007 04:26 AM

There was a guy from Omni on the second day of my interview, but I do not know if he got a job offer. Nice guy though...

ugleeual 08-24-2007 11:24 AM

All you have to do is "lateral" from JFK to ATL... they don't allow that option at Delta? ****?

Just because you are already an 73N pilot in NYC (for example) doesn't mean you get priority on flying the 88 in ATL. When an advance entitlement comes out, you have to put in a bid for an ATL 73N and hope your seniority can hold it, just like anyone else. The only difference is if you get it, you won't have to go to training.

acl65pilot 08-26-2007 06:04 AM

It is a system bid. IE every one in the company can bid for each position.

Just got back from interview. Can give you an update on the process. Basically it is just like Guard Dude's report. 3/6 on my date were offered 'conditional', 3/6 the next day. The previous week was 3/8'ish all week, so even though they're hiring a lot, they're not hiring everyone. WFFF gouge still works.

Waiting on a class date...Anyone coming up in the 03 Sep or 17 Sep classes? From my 20 Aug class, I was told there was a slim chance I could be in the 03 Sep class, and that the 17 Sep class is wide open. Anyone hear anything?

944Turbo 08-27-2007 09:11 AM

I interviewed on the 1st of August and will be in the September 3rd class.

Hey Gretzky.. congrats! btw, in a prior job I used to fly FAR 135 charter and took your avitar (Ben Stein) on a couple of trips! Neat guy, and used to give you a check for $100 at the end of every trip.. needless to say, I kept the check and didn't cash it! Win Ben Steins money!

t6ip 08-27-2007 10:53 AM

Interviewed mid-August. 6/8 got hired. I got the "Ok to train" email 7 business days later. The very next day, I got a call for the 17 Sep class. Two of my classmates got the email and the call on the same day as me.

Best of luck to everyone going to the interview.

Gretzky 08-29-2007 05:46 PM

Just got word 1/7 got hired at today's interview. Wow.

I wonder if they changed the test. Hopefully, we will get word soon.

Raging white 08-30-2007 07:32 AM

WOW is right. Anybody hear why so unlucky that day?

grasshopper 08-30-2007 08:59 AM

Test was the same this week...heard again that it was changing soon though. Cog test gets a couple each time. Read directions and take breaks between sections...don't use the mouse. It's easy to fall into a "I'm playing Tetris" type mentality while taking it.

Professor 08-31-2007 05:11 AM

I was in the 8/29 class. Only 1 of 7

Test was the same, all as advertised.

WFFF is still laser guided.

Darienne from pilot hiring said that it was the worst day they have ever had.

ITSALLGOOD 09-03-2007 05:17 PM

Anybody know the A/C assignments handed out to the new class today??

C-17 Driver 09-03-2007 05:38 PM

Info shamelessly garnered from another website:

Don't know the validity of it, but this is what was on FI.com

6-73n Nyc
4-73n Slc
2-7er Nyc
20-m88 Nyc

Awaiting a class date with DAL...Anyone in the 17 Sep Class? Anyone know if there's openings? Told I'd hear from Brian Bolt on Tuesday...

BTW...do you know where the SLC slots went in today's class (senior/middle/junior)? I'm livin' in Ogden and looking to be near home.

That went slightly above the middle of the pack, with reference to the class's SSN order. (Right above those 20 NYC Maddog spots)

Congrats Prof. Thanks for calling and letting me know. Welcome to the fam.

How long will the folks who get the ER to NYC right out of training be on Reserve?

Are most of the trips 4-6 days with 3-4 days off in between?

Thanks in advance.

umm, forever?

seriously, they will be on reserve for years, or until they get tired of it and bid off to another aircraft.
