Actually from what I understand that is what helped in this situation as no RA was forthcoming, crew started turn based on TA before ATC called .Second hand info mind you.

I realize it was CNN but a 'diagram' showed they were 1/2 mile apart laterally (3 required by ATC) and 200' vertically (1000' required). Appears to be an ATC error.

That's amazing! That's the XB-70 which was an air force strategic bomber.

Only a very very small handful of pilots got to fly it as I believe there were only 3 made.

It's the North American XB-70 Valkyrie. The Air Force tested it with NASA, but I don't think it ever entered service.
