The entire ALPA website is down, not just the DALPA site.
I also am all for getting software that is not freeware for our Web Boards and the like. The pilot pool is full of talented individuals that could do a lot of the work for us. |

Servers crash all of the time. We need backup servers and off site storage where a transition to the backups would be seamless.

The paper trail needs to stop after about a week, or maybe even several days. The problem with web boards generally is that this is a open and current discussion of topics without perfect information. As a result we often get it wrong. However, none of us speak to our friends with the expectation of being quoted, perfectly, a decade later. I assume the web board, as a form of Communications, works at the pleasure of the MEC. Obviously they can, and do, control its content to avoid posts that could cause harm. Along those lines, it is probably best that ALPA get out of the web board business all together. It is a liability exposure. |

Total number of RJ's: Down. Total number of DCI block hours: Down. Total number of DCI pilots: Down.. |

I follow this thread from time to time as it has provided a lot of good info. This however sounds like the same misleading info on scope our union puts out. Yes all the above is true, but they are half truths. This is exactly why I don't trust ALPA or our current leadership. Anyone who can think realizes that they are flying MORE of OUR PAX on LARGER JETS. I would rather have them flying less of our pax and not bigger jets, the way it was before. We can keep running with this logic and let them fly bigger jets and guess what, the number of RJs would be less, the block hours would still be less and there would also be less pilots, all up to a certain point of course. To paint this as a good thing is ridiculous. It would be a good thing only if we were flying our pax and not them on larger jets.
The next point is how do we do that? We are looking for as many ideas as we can get. Offer yours up! |
Airframes is a good start for Scope.
Without any other metrics airframes is a worthless metric... We need to look at more than that. ASM Enplanements Block Hours Flights Stations All of the JV AND DCI flying should be pegged at a percentage to the corporation's total flying. Else we'll find ourselves with OpenSky or the UAL Air Lingus startup... Cheers George |

The only metric where DCI is "growing" is ASMs. They are carrying some passengers longer distances, but their total share of passengers is declining. Mainline domestic block hours went from 51.5% to 56.2% of total system domestic block hours from January 07 through March 09. Oh, even thought they now have 153 of the new 76 seat jets, their total aircraft count is down over 100. That means 250+ of their "old" aircraft have been parked. They're shrinking, and shrinking aggressively. Anyone who can think will look at facts and not let emotional spin get in the way of their "I don't like it" rants. Nobody is saying you have to like it. Let's just deal with real data, please. |

Well put.

Long term I think a grassroots effort should come about to oust ALPA for a number of reasons. Even if not successful it would shake things up a lot. I think this MEC has done some good work and I appreciate their efforts. I know they are sometimes thankless jobs. However, I think they dropped the ball when it comes to the biggest issue facing our group which I think most are finally realizing is scope. I think people are showing up to the dance a little late. Better late than never. I ultimately think the RLA needs to be overhauled. I do think Delta pilots will strike in 2013. You heard it hear first (not that I am looking forward to it). Save your pennies. |
