"the FAR is also quite clear that the pilots must get 8 hours of "uninterrupted sleep opportunity" at the layover hotel. This is basically the same as the 8 hours behind the door we have had in the PWA for a number of years, but now it is required. It is not 8 hours of sleep."
"The FAR has changed to require a minimum of 8 uninterrupted hours of sleep opportunity. The eight hours begins when you get to your room and ends when you leave your room for pickup."

And the company will as well, throwing that rogue regulation ignoring pilot under the bus with a flurry of AP press releases about how all pilots are encouraged to get the rest needed and we would hapilly delay a flight, safety is number one, etc. Do not let anyone push you on the rules or safety. If we do now, it will become accepted practice and the only way to get backing will be after something happens.
I have not seen schedulers pushing at DAL. In fact my experience in the last two weeks has been the opposite - the schedulers have been super conservative. They have been giving out GSs vice using reserves at times.
This may change as They adjust to 117, lets hope it does not.
Have you experienced or heard of Pilots at DAL being pushed?

Having said that, there are some within DALPA that are misinterpreting the 8 hour uninterrupted sleep opportunity in FAR 117 to be identical to the "8 hours behind the door" provision of our pilot contract. They are telling pilots that this is the case. I know everyone can read for themselves, but I also know that some of us (not me) put a great deal of confidence in what their reps, committee chairmen, etc. tell them. I am very concerned that one of our pilots is going to end up being violated on this. Not because of being "pushed" but because they are being given bad information. At this point, the danger seems to be coming from DALPA, not the company.

For my flight, my LATT was inaccurate. It used our planned flight time (which going to ATL is always short unless it is the middle of the night and you are landing in the right direction VMC) + 10 minutes taxi in. We went way over. Fortunately, we weren't that close to our LATT. It was a bad time though. I am extremely disappointed with how our company is handling the new FAR's. I have a feeling violations are coming our way.
I have. I know one pilot flew 9:35 of block in one day. His last flight was from LAS-DTW. He said they had 170kt planned tailwind. It was actually only 70kts. They were also filed at 250 cost index. He said dispatch also had a 5 minute taxi in on flight plan and a 10 minute taxi out. Everything assumed best case scenario. This pilot said flight panned out exactly as he expected and they went over FAR's by :35.

Hockey,
I concur with NU - that merits an ASAP. I was however, specifically referring to the schedulers who have been very timid about 117. Maybe dispatch and crew tracking are taking a more aggressive approach?
