Because I was 22 and flying for Island Air in Hawaii. I wanted to fly for her Uncles airline, Pelican Air. We tried everything to get me papers but the only solution was to get married and I just couldn't do it. And for the record - I had no problem going Down Under. I went Down Under sometimes a few times a month. Sometimes via Fed Ex, sometimes via Polar. I even used UAL once. Down Under was my favorite place. It was always very clean Down Under. Hoping to start going Down Under again.

LA CP says 777 is a done deal for Fall IF the flights remain which he believes they will. Sorry to take the 20 free hrs of pay off the trip. People might have to actually work and maybe go Down Under 3 times in a month. Mmmmmmm.....

When I was on the 777, I only went Down Under maybe 3 times a year. Each time was a special experience... so exotic, so hypnotic, so familiar, but at the same time, foreign.

If we get the LAX 777 base it will give new meaning to the word "senior".

If you do rent camper van in NZ, I've used KEA and they were great. Them and Maui use first run camper vans. Other companies are a bit cheaper but use the camper vans after 5 or so seasons.

Default SoCal question

I'm sure some will say I'm crazy for even considering this, but I've kinda been kicking around the idea of moving to SoCal, doing the LAX thing. Climate, recreation opportunities are big draws for me.

For any of you guys that live there presently, can you recommend locations/areas that are within reasonable commuting time/distance and also halfway affordable for FO level of income? (yr 12 FO, yay)

Would like to buy a single family home, prefer to avoid condo/townhome. The metro area is obviously a huge area, and kinda daunting to break down and analyze. No kids, so schools don't really matter.

Any info much appreciated, and I'm probably junior to almost everybody based there now, so don't be holding back!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA........

Just kidding. I've been here my whole life as most others have as well. Many left over Navy guys as well.

Housing prices are back up. Rentals are a good option as well. Closer to the Beach and affordable. I'd look at San Clemente and N County Diego (Oceanside, Carlsbad, or Vista if you want PERFECT WX.)

Only consider the move if you're junior...J/K.

PM if you want more info.

Baja.

You will have narrow it down geographically. Most LAX pilots do not live in
Los Angeles county but in the surrounding counties. I would say from most to least this is where the LAX guys live:

San Diego
Orange County
Ventura County
Riverside County

Now obviously some guys do live in LA proper, and there are also some in San Bernardino and a few up North in Santa Babara also.

All of the above areas have a huge variety of housing and schooling options. Traffic is horrible but it is reliably horrible so you know what to expect. Obviously the closer you are to the airport the easier your drive will be. Many San Diego guys actually fly up vice driving.

Southern Orange county has some really nice areas and is not too bad of a drive but very pricey.

I recommend narrowing down search and hooking up with a local Realtor.

Scoop

OBTW - Sunny with a high of 75 today - about to set off on a bike ride.

I agree with Scoop on the where to live... The top 3 places are San Diego, Orange County and Ventura County. I'm not a Riverside County fan.. I was born and raised in SoCal and I own a home in SoCal. If you have any questions on the area please feel free to PM me..
