Carl was talking about it. I had not heard anything official from NWA. Had a call in but I have been gone all day.
Even with out it, the PERPS may cover the issue.

In the latest Trim Tab, Steve Dickson wrote about the large # of SILS (reduced hrs pay but stay home for the month) in November and added that "even though the CY2009 summer flying schedule has not yet been finalized, there is a good chance that we will need to hire." The SILS were due to aircraft mx/refurb/winglet additions and not a sign of furloughs. Jan/Feb would be the latest to interview and be ready (trained) for the summer flying schedule. That would mean March classes by the time folks made it through the hiring process & background checks. I was a March class and was released to the 75/76ER line in early August with no abnormal training delays other than the three weeks between indoc and class. The MD and 73 guys were ready by June since they get less training and IOE. We need guys at least in NYC-ER as even this summer IA calls were frequent and we have lost folks to other airframes since then. Looking at ATL MD-80 #'s they are short over 40 pilots for "future staffing." A good sign of future hiring will be an AE with backfill. Good luck to potential newbies and get that resume updated. Have a bud ready to walk in to a CP office with it and ask for a pre-screen. I would not be here without it. 150-200 slots is nothing with thousands of apps that I'm sure will come in. Most will probably never get looked at guys who have lined up their "boys" and make the small pilot screening dept jobs alot easier. They are good folks in there but it is hard to tell the difference between most folks. A solid rec from A CP is money to them. I could go on and on. Good luck.

Woa Big Fella,

Every 4 sentences or so, hit that return/enter button. Paragraphs are a good thing.

I'm wondering if we will be short in the NYC ER category next summer, or if A330 flying will take up the slack.

(My vote is for the Airbus to pick up all of the Africa and Latin America flying, leaving Europe and the Middle East to the ER!)

I just finished the long 757/767 course on Virginia ave. I had some time to harass; crew resources, crew planning and I talked to Jim G and Barry W in the speedline. Here is what I got:

crew resources: look for a bid to include CVG 767 changing to CVG 7ER it all depends on the training footprint. Which means how many already qualified 767 guys bid the ER positions. If they don't get enough people that are already qualified then they will pull the bid.

crew planning: waiting for DCC then they are going to be moving a good many airframes. 747's to Atlanta, A330 to Atlanta and New York. 7ER's to DTW and possibly SEA. 767-400 going to be moved to DTW and possibly NYC. There seems to be alot of switching of routes between the -400 and the A330.

Jim G and Barry W: Would be hiring right now if not for political reasons (exact words). Waiting for SLI to be complete.

Now all of this was from two to three weeks ago, so all or some could have changed.

Have heard the same about the CVG 7ER being on the AE with the qualifier about training. What they're really hoping is to get their (CVG) commuters back from the NYC and ATL bases, I think they had something like 55 of those.

The 73N is short on FOs right now in NYC, I and my fellow CVG reserves are doing a lot of DHing to JFK for trips, and we're covering some SLC as well. I won't even go into the flying the 88 bubbas on reserve are doing. Oh, by the way, the planes are all FULL!

Paragraphs added for nKn's pleasure

I thought that both sides were saying under the new contract 400 additional pilots would be needed to cover the different staffing formulas between delta's and nwa's contract. (for the nwa side alone)

even if nwa is over staffed wouldn't they be understaffed the minute they switch to the new contract? (unless they were over staffed by 400)

They wouldn't be instantly understaffed. We would have approx. 2 year period to bring the staffing up to the new level.

If it takes 2 years to get to the correct staffing level wouldn't that mean that they are understaffed until then?
