Delta Air Lines to open branch in RP

The world’s largest airline, Delta Air Lines, Inc., has been given the go-signal to set up a branch in the country, documents from the Securities and Exchange Commission showed.
The corporate regulator has allowed Delta Air Lines to transact business and to establish a branch in the Philippines. The office will be engaged in “international air transportation services.”

The Philippine office has an authorized capital of P9.4 million consisting of 1.5 billion common shares and 500,000 preferred share at a par value of $0.0001 apiece.

No other details were given and officials from Delta Air Lines could not be reached for comment.

Delta Air Lines is the world’s largest airline in terms of passenger traffic, fleet size, and annual revenue, operating an extensive domestic and international network that has a flight to every continent except Antarctica.

Last year, the airline merged with Northwest Airline Corp. to form the world’s largest commercial carrier. As a result of the merger, Northwest became a wholly owned subsidiary, which Delta Air Lines said would allow it to better manage economic cycles and volatile fuel prices, among others.

The merger is expected to give Delta Air Lines $2 billion in annual revenue and a more comprehensive and diversified route system.

Northwest operates various ticketing office in the country.

We are becoming kinda like "Stockholm hostages". We've been savaged and abused for so long that we've become accustomed to it and now we voluntarily bend over whenever management walks into the room and actually thank them for allowing us a dab of Vaseline. Inexplicably, we wish for their success even as they abuse us.

The real danger that worries me is that too many Delta pilots have learned to accept our current lower standard of living as the "new normal" for major airline pilots. I fear we're going to forget that this is a bankruptcy contract and its going to take some HUGE restoration just to get back to where we were.
We must not allow that to occur. We have to remember.

That's the real reason I react so strongly to some forum posters who like to point out how good we have it compared to USAir or whatever and who seem to think the industry has changed forever and have surrendered to the idea that pilots will never again be paid as true "professionals" on par with top doctors and lawyers, etc.

Sometimes the tone of this thread scares me. We've begun to measure the success of our careers based on the accomplishments of the corporation. We facilitate and cheer for the successful DAL/NWA merger. We sign and applaud the AF Joint Venture. We give our full support to the Japanese thing. We lobby our Senators and Congressmen on behalf of management's LaGuardia slot swap. And on and on. But meanwhile, we are still working for bankruptcy wages.
We've been "laying the groundwork for a sustainable business plan" for about 7 or 8 years now.
Its time to ask for something in return.
Check,

Great post! I won't speak for anyone but myself when I say I root for the company because I want them to succeed and to take the "we're just barely surviving" excuse away from them in negotiations.

I hope the recent 44 elections and the response to the 190 rumor have awakened the MEC to the feelings of the electorate. While we cheer for the company (and our stock), we want to be compensated in 2012. Of course, based on the SWA and AA contract negotiations which dragged on forever, I am not holding my breath for anything remotely resembling C2K. Until we can get out from the RLA, labor doesn't have any recourse but to accept what Management wants to offer us.

I would like to see some relatively cost free QOL things signed off the next time we sign a secret LOA. That would help reestablish credibility to the MEC. Nothing for nothing.

I agree that our pay sucks. But how do you define "bankruptcy wages" considering our top pay exceeds that of EVERY network carrier?

DAL- $209
AMR - $205
CAL - $193
UAL - $190
AAA - $160

Those are our peers. And two of them never even went bankrupt. So, if our "bankruptcy wages" put us at the top of the pile, I say LET'S DO IT AGAIN!

BTW, I agree 100% with Dragon when he said, "Of course, based on the SWA and AA contract negotiations which dragged on forever, I am not holding my breath for anything remotely resembling C2K. Until we can get out from the RLA, labor doesn't have any recourse but to accept what Management wants to offer us." THAT'S where the real problem lies -- its not with ALPA, Lee Moak, or the elected reps.

TOKYO, Jan 11 (Reuters) - A state-backed fund in charge of turning around Japan Airlines (JAL) (9205.T) wants to see a tieup between JAL and Delta Air Lines (DAL.N), Kyodo news reported on Monday.

The Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp of Japan (ETIC) has proposed in its restructuring plan that JAL form a business tieup with Delta with no capital injected by the American carrier, Kyodo said, citing unidentified sources close to the matter.

The report said ETIC eyed a switch to the Delta-led global SkyTeam alliance in April 2011.

The fund has estimated that an alliance with Delta would give JAL an annual benefit of 17.2 billion yen ($186 million), three times more than what expanded ties with American Airlines (AMR.N) would offer.

JAL is currently a member of the Oneworld alliance with American.

JAL, Asia's largest airline by revenue, will likely file for bankruptcy this month as part of a state-led restructuring, sources have told Reuters. [ID:nTOE605013]

As JAL appears headed for bankruptcy, Delta and American have been courting it with rival offers of financial aid, eager to gain access to its routes to fast-growing Asian markets and to get a stronger foothold in Japan.

JAL had been aiming to decide this month whether to keep ties with American in the Oneworld alliance or join hands with Delta and the rival SkyTeam group.

However, Transport Minister Seiji Maehara said on Friday a decision would likely be delayed. [ID:nTFD006531] (Reporting by Chris Gallagher; editing by Karen Foster) ($1 = 92.48 yen)

That would be defined by any of the following:

1. The other network carriers' wages suck more. Don't worry, be happy.
2. Our pay is whale poo. Other carriers' pay is lower whale poo, poo-hoo!
3. Other carriers are in the Bad News Bears league of pay and we're #1!
4. Of all the bankruptcy wages, ours is the highest. Quitcher b*tchin'!!
5. Working for top bankruptcy wages is a choice...well, never mind.

I define bankruptcy wages like this:

12 yr. C2K 777A - $319.61 per hr.
12 yr. Current 777A - $208.72 per hr.
-----------------------------
12 yr. C2K 767B - $182.72 per hr.
12 yr. Current 767B - $119.32 per hr.

You want to do that again?

So, what's your plan to get there? Let me guess:

a) Hold your breath
b) Stomp your feet
c) Demand it
d) all of the above

Let's not forget SWA.

Their 12 year 737 CA/FO rates 206/144
our 12 year 737 CA/FO rates 168/114

Is this hourly or by the trip? The SWA pay structure if different...by the trip instead of by the hour. I believe this equates to a higher hourly wage for SWA. Anyone who knows care to explain and break it down to an hourly rate?
