As usual I think we agree more than we disagree! 
Most of us are responsible enough to know if it's "right" to call in for a particular situation. We trust each other's judgement completely when deadheading or commuting, so why not trust each other's judgement on when to use a sick call?
We have enough challenges in the coming years with contract negotiations, scope/JV issues, etc to be attacking and questioning each other's integrity.
That's my long way of saying kumbaya!

Here's what I find interesting (not from the Kool-Aid drinkers, but from the regular fDAL guys):
Remember when USAir wanted to buy Delta? Management was sure scared because they would lose their jobs. DALPA was scared for a number of reasons. It was one of those moments where the desires of management and labor coincinded albeit for totally different reasons. Lee Moak was quoted as saying that DALPA was able to convince Wall Street bankers who be financing the deal, that it would be really hard to run an airline with angry pilots. What do you think he meant by that?
Some guys on here think it meant everything except a pilot calling in sick when he/she decided they were sick.

The goal is to keep pilots annoyed but not get them angry. That is the line that everyone works to keep. Annoyed means you will do a little more than your job, angry means you will do no more than your job.

Screw Kumbaya! This is a lot more fun. Slow looks a little perplexed at :38. I must say, though, that Carl doesn't appear to be putting forth a full effort at :45.

You know, it's not really about what this discussion has evolved in to. It's about whether certain fDAL pilots EVER see a need to use a weapon against their management. I'm sad to see that there are some here who would find an excuse not to fight - no matter what. To those folks, I posed a thesis that nobody responded to - so I'll repost it below:

I agree with you. Someday we will need to stand up and show that we are not going to be taken advantage of. That is EXACTLY why I would discourage infighting (especially on a public message board) and personal attacks.
Many on here are far too quick to do management's bidding for them and look down upon their fellow pilots. On the flip side, I don't feel that our current relationship with management is giving us any reason to "grow a pair" and start a meltdown. So far, they have shown a genuine (in my opinion) interest in engaging the pilot group. What has occurred here is unprecedented, and until that relationship changes (and it probably will around 2012) I see no need to start trouble where it doesn't exist.
The key, as you seem to be pointing out, is that we ALL BE WILLING to take a stand if necessary, should management decide to alter the relationship. There is a middle ground between bending over because we don't want to rock the boat, and starting a riot for no good reason. Frankly I'm very pleased that we are operating in the middle ground and hope it continues.

I don't find a lot of reasons to enter into the increasingly acrimonious discussions this thread is full of. The sick leave, call in honest, jumpseat, union solidarity disagreements should not be in a public forum. What I believe is a valid reason for expending a personally earned benefit is of no one else's business. And what you may do is none of my business. Talk of union actions on a public forum is like fixing dinner and taking a dump in the same sink. Good Luck! And the sanctimonious pep talk vs. habitual shirker defenses degrades the common purpose of thiis forum. I'm about done with this thread. It should be closed.
