Schwanker,

Not to be a cheerleader or such, but I do believe we will use it if have too (and if we are aloud too by the gubmint!!) I think this pilot group gained a lot of backbone in the merger and, for the most part, this pilot group will present a unified front during contract negotiations. We may have a few internal battles but anybody trying to butt in will have their hands full!!!

Carl,

I agree with your call to open section 6 now to be done by 2012. One item to add is I think we should also suggest that if things aren't done by the ammendable date, we automatically go to mediation (I think AA tried that once, don't know how it went for them).

But, I'm sure the management boys will say they are busy finishing up the merger..........sigh

PS

What do we want from our old contract?

Call in honest
Time and a half over 80 hours
minimum day vs average day
an honest rework of sick leave. I like some aspects of the Delta system but I'm not sure about this rolling system we have now that I'm getting older. I had one stretch of 5 years perfect attendance once, don't think I'll ever make that again:(

I agree! Plus it just dawned on me another reason to get started with section 6 now, it will unify the combined group.

I hope it never goes that far (again) but as I've said before, it was our strike in 97 that unified the red/greens as had never been done before.

There was no call in honest policy in the NWA contract. The only contractual call in honest policy was in the Delta contract.
The time in a half over 80 hours produces far less overall cash for the pilot group then the double pay for greenslips so the MEC opted to go that route.

Do you mean our 737 pilots 1% above SWA... or or 777 guys? Getting 1% above a SWA guy isn't saying much for a DAL 777 pilot.:mad:

1 percent above on the 737 with all other rates adjusted accordingly. Also restoration of night pay and a increase in international pay.

Yes, what I'm saying is put our old POLICY in vs the POS we have in the contract now.

I'll have to wave the BS flag on the greenslip vs time and a half thing till someone shows me some numbers. It looks to me like the only guys who can take advantage of greenslips are guys who live in base. I would think the company would want more guys able to take those type of trips as needed? Anyway, I have a personal policy that I don't commute to high time, it's tempting fate. But I will bid long trips that take me over 80 hours for the preminum.

Interesting discussion, I'd like to see numbers.
Ferd

PS. We had something like greenslip trips TOO. Some hard to fill trips were called "premimum" and payed 2x like greenslip.

Denny;
It is important to debate the points here and on other forums. Many of the "Silent Majority" read this stuff to form an opinion. Arguing both side of an issue is good for the gander.

Carl; We are on the same page more or less.

A few pages back I did the math for a SWA parity rate on our 737's versus their. It was a 23 percent raise off of this year. Though the math is not perfect each percent is about 18 million and goes up as you compound the raises on each other.
Ergo:
To reach parity we would need a 414 million dollar increase per year to our cost. ( Probably 500 million as we do the math for are larger jets)
That equates to about 1.5% of our revenue this year. Doable IMO.

I also would not be surprised to see us morph to a 40 billion dollar a year corp as the world economy turns.

Also Carl;
I think that it would be beneficial to open Sec 6 early, but what benefit does the company have? (As you see it) :D

I've never been a fan of mediation. It is just another delay tactic. Plus mediation is never binding. Now if you mean arbitration or binding arbitration - absolutely not! It is way too easy for arbitrators to become one with the side who has the keys to the cash register.
