Who would have thunk it. I don't know if UPS'ers were required to resign from their previous airlines. In this business, it's better to be lucky than good.

I went off list price, but you are correct. I think we pay a lot less.
Either way the point was that we could be buying a ton of metal for the price we are paying for debt service if we retired half of the debt.

Who can I talk to regarding seat assignment by gate agents in NRT? Long story short, i gave a buddy pass to someone flying out of NRT on a 744, wide open in both classes. He and the other S4 were assigned to the last row in coach, and all the others S3 were assigned business class. Business class had more than 30 more seats open.

I then looked at the day prior, and something similar happened. A S4 passrider of longer longevity date was riding coach, whereas a junior S4 passrider was riding business.

Thanks for any help.

You got that right.

Print out the Airport Standby List (the one with the seat assignments) and send it to your Chief Pilot with an explanatory note. If you do not get a satisfactory answer from him then send it to Contract Administration. Keep copies of everything.

Pull the flight number, and cleared list off of travelnet. Save it. Start be sending it to your rep. If that does not work, send it to your CPO, who will more than likely consult ACS.

(Preface - others will immediately chime in and tell me I'm full of poo, but )

NWA used to not let OAL pass riders in Business or First as a matter of policy. The Flight Crews would sometimes go out of their way to get OAL riders moved up. However, the Gate Agents were regimented in the policy. In Asia the Gate Agents seemed to take it a little further, one even commenting to me that there was no way my family was going to ride in First Class for "free" on a ID-76, when she could not even get a VISA to come to the US.

Just like the end of WW2 went unreported to some living on Pacific Islands, the change in "our" pass policy seems slow to get implemented in the farthest reaches in our system. IMHO you could help all of us by passing this information along to your Rep and CPO as others have described, so they can assure help is provided to ensure our pass program is administered uniformly.

Side Question:

My mom bought a ticket to France on Delta and I was wondering if there is anyway I can get her upgraded to first or business class for free using my benefits?

If it is a "Fly Confirmed for Less" ticket, nope not going to happen. Part of the limitations of these tickets is that they are for the class booked and are not eligible for upgrades.

If it is a full fare or regular class coded ticket the best you could hope for is to accompany her to the gate and beg! :D
