Yep. The one where the Captain was having "non-pertinent conversations" :D  :D (I've heard rumors) with the flight attendant and trying to get the plane to climb faster so she didn't have to push the galley cart up hill. They ended up stalling out, the plane went 111 degrees over on roll and 67 degrees nose down, the FO threw out the gear and some where in there the prop seperated. They over ran the runway and there you go.

I flew not too many months ago with a Captain from the training department. He said the thing he's learned the most from doing requalls is don't do anything but watch the airplane during the climb and descent. I'll take him for his word.

I actually ran into the guy who was the Captain on that flight in Houston a couple of years ago. He's a building supervisor for one of the homebuilders there. He told me the story when he found out I worked for COEX. The guy has never been in an airplane since then and said he still had nightmares of the event. He won't even fly as a passenger. He was a nice guy and actually admitted that he sorta froze up during the event and realized he wasn't cut out for anything like that again.

That was a common saying around the MD88 Dept. Any chance this was an -88 guy? Just curious.

No - literally. They have plenty of room between Ted Williams' head and Walt Disney. In order to never furlough again (and lose those precious 76 seaters) the company will just put excess pilots in a deep freeze and thaw them out as required. Remember Hans Solo in Revenge of the Jedi - something like that.

DALPA is 99% done on the the LOA as we post. :)

Scoop

Scoop, that's some scoop. What about the rumors of hiring and pumping up the struts on airplanes in Victorville?

All I know is the chief LCA on the 88 in ATL was my roommate during USAF UPT in 1983. Awesome guy and great pilot. Actually, I'm amazed that we're still both alive and flying for Delta. There are some stories there...that will remain anonymous until I retire from Delta and write my next tell all.

Seriously, we go way back and the man is awesome. I taught him all I know...or, at least, you can tell him that. He'll chuckle. RF, are his initials.

You may get you wish. Same with DFW, but there is no need to get in to that right now.... :D

Regarding Dallas - There is the Allen/Crandall Pact standing in the way.
We pulled DFW down to minimal service and American has minimal service in ATL.
Slightly illegal, but it has worked for both airlines for many years now.
