Well I have been a lurker for several years but decided to post for the first time.
I have seen a lot of concern regarding displacements, particularly with the Jr. DAL pilots, and to be honest, I think they should be worried and here is why.
First off I commute to the DC9 FO in MSP. I can actually hold the 320 but choose the 9 so I can be about half way up the list instead of at the bottom of the 320 list. If I look at the new list I can see the that the 2 DAL pilots directly above me both fly the 767 out of ATL, the one pilot below me is on the 737-800 out to SLC and the DAL pilot 4 under me is on the 767 out of SLC. There is also a MD88 guy but I can’t remember what base, even though they were hired 2 years after me.
So first off I will tell you that I intend to bid the 767 as soon as I possibly can and would prefer to commute anywhere in the country other than MSP, DTW or NYC. Sorry about that Jr. DAL guys it is what it is and I am sure you would do the same.
Also, I have talked to no less than 75 NW FO's who fly the 320, DC9 and 757 and with the exception of about 12 or 13 who seemed happy to fly the 9 or 320 every single one of them intends to bid into bigger and better paying aircraft ASAP and I would say that at least 40 of them want to bid into DAL bases to improve their commute or QOL. To be honest a lot of the 320 guys like the plane but would like to see it moved to SLC, LAX or ATL to improve their commutes.
I have not talked to as many Captains but the few I have spoken with also are very excited about the opportunities that their new found seniority has given them. I am not sure what aircraft most of them want but a fair amount of them commute for the west or south and they are excited about having some bases closer to their homes.
So anybody that does not think you are going to see huge numbers of NW pilots bidding into the aircraft and bases that DAL brings to the table is not being honest with themselves or the DAL guys.
I am also sure that some DAL guys will bid into the NW aircraft and bases, I just don’t have enough contact with the DAL crews to see how prevalent it will be.
Well that is it. Probably my first and last post, but it is and honest opinion of what you will see as soon as the gates are opened to DAL bases and equipment.
Cheers
