It was one of those rare days when DTW was landing on the 27s (happens 3-4 times a year). Usually when this happens, despite whatever direction you come from, you get vectored 270 degrees around the north side of the airport to one of the 27 finals. It's usually good for at least 15-20 minutes.

Well, not this time...last flight of a 4 day. We were coming in from the SE. A slight vector put us on the 27L localizer. Metro tower gave us a "roll to the end approved". A slight right turn, and a chat with ramp control had us rolling gently to a stop right at A-5 with just a tap of the brakes, where the ground crew was waiting, power plug in hand. It was hardly a minute after we had touched down.

As I said, once in a career. Of course, I still had seven and a half hours to wait for my commute home, but hey, a win is a win.

With newK, they simply move the gate, terminal, and indeed, the entire land mass to where the plane stops.

Duh....

Alright, you hang with the lilacs, your call.

My bad tho, you are right, I heard a mountain move out of newK's way when he was on a depressurization route just because the course was in the wrong place. The plane later shot itself for depressurizing.

The rampers don't just walk out to the airplane.... they come out doing backflips and instantly fully service the airplane. No one ever misses their connection when newK is captain.

Did you notice the whole in the wall there at the gate, that was me. The ramper parked us on the 90 line and not the 88, the Captain thought it was wrong but you kind of have to trust the ramper. Sure enough it was wrong so the other rampers were mad at the marshaller. They tried to hook up a tug but ended up putting the tug through the wall.

Funny I noticed that hole last time I was there!
As for the reason we get treated like red headed step children at our gate could be that we are FDAL and they are revolting towards us. I would say its a union thing but who knows. They most certainly are unmotivated lazy uncooperative people working our flights.
Calling does absolutely know good, and I doubt the COR that are piling up will do any good either...
Oh well, just avoid DTW when able.

Delta Air Lines is cutting more routes at Cincinnati, once a large hub for the carrier.

A scheduling update loaded by the carrier on May 22 and subsequently confirmed by Delta, shows Cincinnati service ending Sept. 7 to Albany and Buffalo, N.Y.; Charleston, W.Va.; Des Moines, Iowa, and Little Rock, Ark. Delta operates daily service on the routes.

Airlineroute.net, which reports airline scheduling changes, says Delta is replacing its Charleston and Little Rock services with a corresponding increase in daily service from Detroit. Delta says all the Cincinnati markets being cut will be served by its other hubs.

Delta has downgraded Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to small-hub status following its merger with Northwest Airlines. Delta now offers fewer than 200 flights a day there, down from a peak of more than 600.

Delta said earlier this year that its focus in Cincinnati will be to expand and maintain service to the top markets, and especially the top business markets, with plans to maintain 160 to 170 daily flights at the city this year (DAILY, Feb. 23). That's the level of service Delta is operating there now and even with the fall route cuts, Delta says May 24 that it remains committed to operating 160 to 175 daily flights in Cincinnati.

"The numbers may vary slightly after the summer peak, but considering the seasonal markets we serve, we'll remain in that range for the fall schedule," a Delta spokeswoman says. She says the route cuts "are related to the ongoing development of the fall schedule, which has not yet been finalized."

Thumbs down Travelnet - parents

When did they start charging an additional $75 for parents on international flights? I see that all people traveling S3B or S3C get dinged with this charge. Since they are not traveling with me (from Canada) they will be charged an extra $150! I'd probably be better off with an Air Canada zed fare!

They don't get the S2 days do they?

All I could find on DeltaNet about a $75 fee was for parents on "a trans-oceanic flight day", so I can't see why you'd get charged for a flight from Canada. There are taxes and fees for many international destinations so those might be the charges. What does it say under "View Pass Charges"?

You can search DeltaNet for "Mom and Dad Have the TravelBug" for a complete explanation of Parents travel.

Parents don't get S2s unless you don't have a spouse/travel companion.

SINGAPORE (AP) - World stock markets tumbled Tuesday, extending Wall Street's sell-off as the sliding euro fueled a new wave of pessimism about the global economy's health.
Renewed worries about Europe's debt problems rattled already anxious investors, who grew more uncertain about the outlook for the U.S. and global economies.
