IATA: Airline execs optimistic about profits

NEW YORK (AP) -- Top airline executives are growing more optimistic about future profit despite tough conditions in the third quarter, according to a survey released Monday by the International Air Transport Association.

In its third-quarter airline business confidence survey, the trade group said that there has been a "marked improvement in expectations for the coming year" compared with the last survey in July, despite little sign of traffic growth from June to September.

About 73 percent of chief financial officers surveyed expect an improvement in profitability over the next year, compared to 46 percent who expected things to get worse in July.

The survey revealed that executives now believe that traffic seems to be leveling off, although it is still weak.

Only three airlines posted a profit in the third quarter -- JetBlue, AirTran and Alaska Air Group. All other major carriers lost money.

Hate to see the boy coach sully what was a valiant effort and a well played game. He is rebuilding a great program but he needs to just shut up and coach.

After you view your sked hit enter, and then there is a line on the second screen that is something like rest periods and SC.

Just from memory......

Icrew, PCS, Slip Requests, Enter Date Ranges (down there with reduce raw score and Yellow Slip stuff). If need be, contact Crew Scheduling and inform them you are a big Bama fan and they'll send you a coloring sheet and you can fill it out with your crayolas or cow poop like beer and I do. Either way, they're used to our types here in ATL. :D

But in all honesty the process is a little different these days so pay attention: go to deltanet, as you click on icrew you'll be logged out, log back in. Go to icrew, click on it, if you're not logged out then enter in your employee number and password. Hit okay, you'll be logged out. Go back to deltanet and log in, click on icrew, you'll be logged out. Go back and log into deltanet, click on icrew, put in your id and password, numerous pages of various warnings will come up, ignore them all like normal by just clicking okay, click on PCS, you'll be logged out. Go...

Step aside Ted Turner, a new mouth of the south is upon us.

He'll be good for keeping UT in the news for better or for worse. If it wasn't for his dad, I'm not sure UT would be viable.

When I was new to the ER I printed the entire paperwork on the 20 setting off the printer, not the 10 setting. The Captain looked at me like I was from mars... but I was just trying to save paper.

And question, are the 16 JAL MD-90s (that JAL is saying they will get rid of) a part of the 60+ MD-90s we had supposedly identified as possible purchases?

I guess when you go to a joke of a school you develop a great sense of humor! That is really funny!

ps, for those of you not from Alabama, you might think I am being harsh toward our good buddy Forgot to Bid. But according to the rules of the Great State of Alabama, last years football score entitles me to make any joke at the expense of Auburn University or any of its fans, as long as I don't make fun of his momma or any other close relative whom He/She may or may not be married to....:D

Satchip is right.

It sucks the lose the Iron Bowl because you have to quietly endure the ridicule for a whole year and they're ain't nothing you can do about it even if you've won 16 of the last 30, 11 of the last 20 and 7 of the last 9... and Bear Bryants last Iron Bowl was a loss to Auburn. So I'm going to wait, and unfortunately, I don't think Auburn will win this year either, most everyone doesn't. Which is fine because it puts all of the pressure on Alabama. :) Could this be 1989 all over again? Doubt it, unless Alabama's current trend of lets see how little we can score in a game continues. I still think they beat LSU because in the words of LSU fans, Les Miles is an idiot.

Man I can't wait fir the Iron Bowl... in 2010. :D

1) OPEC said Monday it may increase oil production in December as the International Energy Agency warned rising oil prices threaten the recovering global economy, Bloomberg reported.

2) Wonder if the 757/767 will still have a power outlet in the cockpit going forward?

3) FAA spot checks at the gates have been going on this last week, including checking the revision status on the manuals, jepps and FOMs (Captains). I got my jepps spot checked.

4) Download on itunes the Delta 411.

Spot checks are OK, I guess that means that you better get those revisions done in the crew room.....
I did not know we were having an issue with this too. I bet it is real comforting to the passengers to see their pilot have to open their flight kits at the gate.

As for OPEC, I hope that they can actually increase production. Sometimes it is harder to get that production back up once you slow the flow of oil out of the ground.

As for JAL, time will tell...

Sad thing is though.. he's right. Slive is an idiot, and it's hard to argue with the calls the gators get vs. what the Hogs GOT... and that personal foul was just... well... words fail me. Nope. The officiating in the SEC blows bigtime this year, and even if it isn't biased towards Bama and FU, it surely appears that way. And you know that old thing about smoke... fire. I'm not complaining about the Bama game... Ya'll beat us fair and square, but the gators get waaaaay too much latitude in their games. It's wrong. Personally I am ashamed of the SEC for this, and I thinki it tarnishes the conference's credibility. Besides.. the gators schedule isn't top 5 worthy anyway. Hard to argue that really.

But for your comment. He's doing EXACTLY what he needs to do. Put SLive and the SEC on notice that this lovefest isn't going to be taken sitting down. It seems he has some backing among other coaches too. It's just that Lane is the first to stand up and be counted. Come on.. get on the Lane train.. it isn't too late. :)

On a side note, while browsing through eCrew/iCrew I think I figured out which category is MOST overstaffed.

MSP330 REG LINE HOLDERS

CA 24
FO 43

MSP330 RES LINE HOLDERS

CA 78
FO 90

Either that or they got the REG and RSV numbers reversed.

I know this has been posted before, but this thread is too long to look for it. When going on family leave due to the wife having a kid, do we get paid sick time? I've been looking at the HR manuals and all it says is unpaid time off. I would assume that in most other professions, we would be able to use vacation time first, then sick time. The reason this matters to me is because it is happening to me during the stub vacation year which means I will only have like 4 days vacation. Sitting reserve sucks. If all eleven of my days off were placed perfectly, I would still need another 7 days off or so. I can't really afford to not get paid for a month straight. Having a baby is an expensive time.

acl65pilot 10-26-2009 04:47 PM

That is the same bandaid fix they had with E-Crew was doing all of its weird stuff two years ago. It is something that will need to be done almost every time. It is not a long term solution.

My guess is vacation and no sick time since you are not the one sick.

From DeltaNet, do a search on "Pilot FMLA". A few documents will pop up. I think you don't get sick time for a healhty baby. I also don't think you get to use sick time to care for any other sick person. You do seem to get to use your vacation, however. In fact, I think you HAVE to use your vacation.

This response is marginally better than the first one I received from IT:

It is great to get to cast votes for good people willing to do ALPA work. Of the votes cast, I'm particularly pleased to have the opportunity to vote for Dave Nestor.

Dave and others' willingness to communicate openly already portends good things for a more transparent and accessible LEC. They understands the "representative" nature of the job.

I was out of the loop on the controversial Q&A that some C44 Candidates participated in. As this story filters out, I'm a little embarrassed for those who think we need new bylaws to prevent Candidates from communicating their platform freely. I'm not sure what to make to some insiders who themselves complain that their communications have been quashed now working to quash others' communications. IMHO this kibitzing about communications reflects negatively upon those doing the complaining.

I now understand why some have climbed into their bunkers. Too often in our union we shoot our own Patriots. There are some very good people running for Rep positions in C44. I'm grateful for each and every one's capabilities and willingness to serve. Cheers to them!

As far as what Bar had to say, I agree fully with every point.

Absolutely, GO DAVE!

I think it is fair to say he has proven himself over the years. ;)

If you want to learn more, check this out:

David Nestor

And these were my other picks that I've already voted for, takes like 3 minutes to vote:

Brian Craig
Chad Smith
Phil Martin

For those of you in ATL voting ends on November 10th at 10am. VOTE. Vote now so you don't forget to as you screw up your Christmas bid and next years benefits.

If you don't know where to vote, check your inbox because on October 10th there was a council 44 communique that gave you all you need to know. If you still can't find it, pm me and I'll send you the link and nothing else, just say: "Need Link... Punk" and I'll get it to you. ALPA has made it very easy to vote, take advantage of it.

If you want to know who else is running and want to be as informed as possible about your vote then check your inbox. There is plenty of emails from all of the candidates that have been going out from the union. Those names I have above are just my favorite picks, if you have other websites from the other candidates that you want to promote, go for it, put it up here, make it available.

Just lets make the info available and keep it civil. This is the biggest bestest thread on this forum and lets keep it going, otherwise, Comair takes over. :D

And so David Letterman Monday night offered the Top Ten Northwest Airlines Pilot Excuses on CBS. (Here’s a link to the video.)
10. Bunch of fat guys seated on the right side of the plane made us vector east.
9. We get paid by the hour.
8. Mapquest always takes you the long way, am I right, people?
7. Tired of that show-off Sullenberger getting all the attention.
6. You try steering one of those airplanes after eight or nine cocktails.
5. Wanted to catch the end of the in-flight movie.
4. Activating autopilot and making occasional P.A. announcements is exhausting.
3. According to our map, we only missed our target by half an inch.
2. For a change, we decided to send luggage to the right city and lose the passengers.
1. Thought we saw balloon boy.

I see you have mastered the art of hyperbole. Maybe YOU should be the one running.

Nobody is suggesting that communication be quashed--only that the sender of that communication have the intestinal fortitude to identify themselves. I have had a couple of PM exchanges with guys active in this thread who know the answer, one pleading with me to just let it go, but for some reason, they are afraid to divulge. Why?

I don't always agree with my reps but I will give them credit for taking ownership of an issue and not hiding behind the skirt of RM and BH like one of the candidates is doing now. I would have preferred the message body to say something like, "Hey, my name is Bob Lipchitz and I am running for Council 44 FO Rep. Attached please find some answers from me and other candidates to questions that RM and BH think are important. I realize they may not be the issues that are important to you though. If you have questions you would like me to answer, please email me or call me at 555-555-1212."

But that's just me.

I've studied the answers to the "survey" and studied the websites of the candidates. Lots of talk. A chicken in every pot. Yadda yadda. I have no issue with that. It's what politicians do. I am looking forward to giving the candidates that win a year before I confront them with the answers to their survey questions and ask them "What happened?"

I agree with you on one point though. I am grateful to those willing to serve. I just hope that when and if they win, they hold themselves to the same standard as those they would attack. I'll believe it when I see it.

No one has anything to hide. If this issue hadn't been turned into some kind of witch hunt with intentions to crucify one or more of the candidates, you would probably already have your answer... however irrelevant that answer is.

The bottom line is that the questions that were asked are highly representative of the questions many of our pilots are asking, and many of the answers do a good job of differentiating between the various candidates. The questions are not "slanted", and the questionnaire was never represented as a comprehensive survey of all issues. The candidates whose answers appear on the questionnaire all agreed to supply their answers and all agreed to have the questionnaire and answers distributed in the manner in which it was distributed. It is completely irrelevant which candidate actually hit "send" and sent it to ALPA National to be distributed... they ALL agreed for it to be sent!

This is a non-issue and sounds to me like sour grapes and hardball politics. IMO, you and your cadre of politicians should be embarrassed.

I am just returning from a leave and I am trying to figure out icrew/ecrew. Is there a good tutorial? How is the best way to learn the system. One big thing is I want to look schedules on the fleet I am going back to.

Feel free to pm me.

Can someone PM me the Council 44 questionnaire with the canidates answer? I saw it in the working stages on the DALPA boards but the answers were never published.

Also I would be interested to read the candidates web sites. Under the old NWA system it seems like we had more visibilities of what was going on in the other councils. I not a council 44 member but there votes still effect me in council 1.

Thanks
