Balloon Chaser - another sobering article.
What I have to hope for Delta / NWA is that we emerged from bankruptcy and have been still shrinking. The operation was very lean and tight to begin with. Even as the economy crashes (yes, I now think that is the right word) Delta has been proactively managing capacity in front of the real decline in passenger demand and even in January 09, reported historically high load factors. International is falling off but I'm not sure where the breakeven point is on that flying.
If Delta makes it through 2009 with an overall profit, that is a hugely positive sign in this economy.
I'm not sure what to do. Gold got hammered and my simple plan of shoving money in DECU CD's looks smart for now. It is a horrible whipsaw to lose hundreds of thousands on your portfolio, THEN get hit with inflation. McCain seemed pragmatic in light of what's going on now. I'm again disappointed with Washington.

I don't think your the only one who is disappointed in Washington. Hopefully our politicians will stop thinking about their partisan obligations, annual salaries, and campaign funding and start putting principle first to do what's best for all people in this country.

Also at the meeting this week of the Managers for the entire system they stated the new target date was a year from now.
You, are correct that there have been some issues. Last time I talked to anyone about it, it was early Jan. It appears that SOC has slipped, due to IT issues. What a surprise here at DAL.

Information from "Outside" of Delta says it will be at least a year, the Delta Digest article was accurate.

You are welcome to retire and move on, especially if your seniority is better than mine, or stick around and join us, your call.
Please don't tell me you were born in 1987. I've got running shoes, guitars, & cars older than that!

Adolphus:
No, you will be paid like you are on reserve. The training pay will offset the reserve guarantee during the days you are in training. After training you will be "on reserve" for your OE. Once the OE is complete you will have the option to be on reserve for the remainder of that month or have a line with no trips, but able to white slip. You will not be paid less than the reserve guarantee for any month while training unless you select the regular line option and don't pick up any trips.

Is there a minimum amount of days off per month?

During training you get 4 sections which each have 2-4 days off between then depending upon scheduling. My training track has 3 days, 3 days and 4 days between the sections. After your LOE, its up to the IOE scheduler. Hope this helps.

Hey DAL guys and girls,
just came off a three day CONUS rotation. Three out of four legs were oversold. I know its anecdotal stuff but we were paying people to not fly. Seems like the economy may be bouncing back a bit after all.
Here's hopin'
