Can you even imagine the privilege of being the guy that got to pull that trigger?

My right index finger is quivering just thinking about it.

Delta adds Pacific routes with Virgin Blue

Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal - by Atlanta Business Chronicle Date: Monday, May 2, 2011

Delta Air Lines, Inc. has added five routes to Australia and New Zealand by expanding codesharing with the Virgin Blue Airlines Group.

The new service to Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, Australia and Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand starts May 21.

In January 2010, Delta (NYSE: DAL) started connecting customers on Virgin Blue flights to Brisbane and Melbourne, Australia. Atlanta-based Delta operates nonstop service between Los Angeles and Sydney, where all codeshare flights connect.

Any pilot that posts a trip on the swap board as a P/U presently does so with full knowlege that his/her line will be reduced by that amount. Whether that pilot chooses to pick up open time, pick up another trip off the swap board (and if out of base were allowed that in base pilot would now have more options for him/her self), fill up by going negative on their bank, or just leave it alone is entirely up to that pilot. Just because YOU would do one thing, doesn't mean everybody would do the same thing. That pilot had their own reason for dropping that trip and the swap board is what gave the pilot the flexibility to fix his/her schedule the way he wanted it without the company getting involved in any way whatsoever.

You are quite welcome for the clarification.

A reserve pilot would not get this trip regardless. If nobody picks up that "crap trip that nobody wants" then the pilot who was originally assigned that trip is still on the hook to fly that trip.

Not true - he could have it on the Swap board as a courtesy so others could go above the ALV+15 limit. Then, with no takers, he could PD it (assuming there was coverage) or even APD it, assuming there was only 25% of the coverage needed.

He could also put it in as a qualified swap.

Lets be serious - if you put a trip on the pilot to pilot swap board as a pickup only - it is GONE.

3,2,1, gone.

Yep - I don't know why more guys don't use it, even for swaps. I've had relatively decent luck with it. (when I had a line)

Let's be realistic. People put trips on the swap board for pickups because they can't drop them, not as a courtesy to fellow pilots. All this does is to allow more flexibility for line holders. Tsquare, I wholeheartedly agree the reserve system needs to be fixed. That is a function of the SOT or section 6. This is not a patch/fix/solution for reserves. This is a stand alone fix for pilot to pilot swap board.

I still cannot understand how cross-base-swapping can do anything but reduce the number of pilots required to staff the airline.

a little off topic...does almost 1000 posts in 2 years mean my APC addiction is still under control or out of hand?
