Quote: Hey. I've been doing a lot of deadheading before and after my trips lately and haven't been to my mailbox in a while.

How do you get notified that your fleet has officially changed over to ship sets and you don't have to bring your flight kit's to work with you anymore?
The ship set bulletin in Vol 1 says we will be notified by electronic bulletin. It also says to expect this on or about June 5.

I spoke with the MEM Chief Pilot yesterday, and he told me that all but 3 of the aircraft have the ship sets. He expects them to be done by today or tomorrow. He also said that they are good about sending out the electronic bulletin as soon as all the aircraft have the ship sets. So, hopefully, we're looking at sooner than the 5th. I'm flying a trip tomorrow and would sure like to find out about this before I have to leave my house for the trip.

Edit: I just got an email from a friend that says an LCA told him that catering was determined to be the lowest cost way to install the ship sets on the aircraft... and that we had a 757 leave the gate with a DC-9 bag. In some ways, I find that awfully hard to believe. But then again, it is a bean counter's world and common sense seems to have been cast aside these days in favor of the lowest cost.
@beer: Tons are easy to screw up. If you had 80,000 tons, you would have had 160,000,000 lbs of go juice, not 160,000. But hey, more gas is better. LOL BTW, it was simply adding the thousand on the end of 57 was were the reported screwed up. I could easily see them having 57 tons (114K) aboard, but not 57 thousand tons. That really caught my ear when he said that. HA
Quote: Well, it's the last day of May, and DALPA promised "further review" of the RAH situation in late May. Anyone know if this has happened, is happening or have we given up?
From the most recent Council 74 update:

Republic Air Holdings (RAH) Scope Issue

This is obviously a contentious issue for a majority of our pilots. During the MEC meeting, we had a very detailed briefing from our DALPA legal staff that explained the current scope language and how holding companies, such as RAH, fit into that language. A vigorous debate took place both in Delegate Committee and in plenary session. We accept the fact that RAH, as it is currently structured, does not violate the scope language in the PWA as currently written. But we also feel that we need to consider how we construct future language to protect the interests of Delta pilots.

Therefore, we amended our resolution to focus our attention on how we protect ourselves in the future. Also take a look at Resolution 11-95, which directs the MEC administration to do a financial analysis of flying done under the Delta brand.

Heyas DAL,

There is obviously something in the negotiator's notes that affects this issue, along with many, many other contractural issues.

The Office of Labor-Managament Standards requires that any collective barganing agreements MUST be available to the membership for inspection. Since the negotiator's notes have been held as evidence in grievances, it must follow that such notes are part and parcel of any such labor agreement.

Therefore, the negotiator's notes should be available for membership inspection. This actually falls under the same requirement that financial audits and information must be made available.

Alaska Airlines issues iPads to pilots

Alaska Airlines said Friday it will issue iPad tablet computers to its pilots to replace up to 25 pounds of paper flight manuals.

The airline said the so-called "electronic flight bag" does not yet include navigational charts, but the company is exploring that possibility as well.

Alaska said the 1.5-pound iPad, to be issued to all pilots by mid-June, must be stowed during takeoff and landing — just as passengers are required to do.

Among the anticipated savings are "fewer back and muscle injuries caused by pilots carrying flight bags that can tip the scales at 50 pounds or more fully loaded," Alaska said.

The company said it's the first major U.S. airline to replace paper manuals with an iPad.

In February, Executive Jet Management, a unit of NetJets that flies small chartered jets, became the first commercial operator authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration to use iPads as the sole source of reference info while on the runway and in the air.

So if it has to be stowed for takeoff and landing, how do you use it for departures and approaches?

Where? I can't see it!!
ah, a buddy of mine from Auburn was jumpseating into EWR on another mainline airline, hint, and both pilots were anxious to catch their commutes. So anxious they had everything stowed away and were shooting the 22L ILS mostly from memory.

Right at the last second they got sent around and as they started the climb they requested vectors and the already swamped tower said no, fly the published.......... eh...... kind of hard to memorize climb to 500', turn right, continue to 3000' on 225 heading, fly inbound on the ARD 069 to KILMA and hold.

and no i don't believe that airplane had an FMS to display the missed.

So I got to learn a lesson at their expense.
Yes..I meant 80,000 tons...and that is per side!! We were flying the 767-300EEEEEEEEEER.
