RE: the situation at American Airlines and its affect on the Delta contract

Haven't seen much comment on this --

ALPA has pulled out of our deal to assist the AA pilots.

I'm not sure Moak has done the wise thing here.
APA is obviously in some difficulty the last few years and it would seem we should try to help them even if it means we catch some of the nastiness that gets generated by their infighting.

Its in our interest for them to get their act together and pattern bargain to the up side.
Now we've bailed out and left them to start over.

Mine was correct. Did you add up your end of month check from 2 weeks ago with this one and see if it was normal? I had the same issue last month, but after some investigating and higher math I found it to be correct.

No growth = you figure it out.

As long as others were furloughing the MEC CC response to AS scope was "you should be happy to have a job, others are furloughing"

With others recalling/hiring, the question is what happens now at Delta?
What will be the new "response" to AS scope?

Looking downrange, further airline industry consolidation is inevitable.
Where does that leave Delta pilots at the SLI table?

The RJs were bad enough and lucky for us self correcting with current fuel prices. The AS feed is just like the RJs but with bigger jets and fewer restrictions.

Bottom line:

Delta pilots should fly the feed for Delta international flying.

I just see this as another example that the mec is looking out for the company (mgmt)'s needs over the pilots they represent. We need them to work on our behalf to do OUR own flying and stop this idea of just codesharing (aka outsourcing) flying that we could be doing with Delta pilots.

I can tell you that the pilot that wrote this is a guy that will call balls and strikes fairly. He is super smart, and took a ton of time writing that piece. Plus, he is far from senior, and is one of the smartest guys I know. He gave an honest answer after pouring over all of the data.

I'm sure the guy that wrote the piece on the AS/DAL codeshare is very smart, as it is very well written and it appears that we are operating within the confines of the agreement. However, just at first glance my gut feeling was validated. DAL provides 5% to AS's bottom line and they provide 1% to ours. In my book that looks very lop-sided. They also carry almost double the amount of DAL customers than we carry AS passengers. This is great for the company and not great for me or you.

It appears to me that AS gets 5X's the good deal that we get from them (on the pilot's backs).
I also get tired of hearing how they feed our international flights. Let's see how many narrow body pilots we would add if we really made this codeshare fair. I'm sure W2 $$ would far exceed the number of widebody jobs benefiting from AS feed. Delta employs narrowbody pilots too you know!

I agree, he is a great guy.
That still doesn't change the fundamental issue.

Yeah but at least we're winning the war on drugs, the quality of education is increasing proportionately with each dollar dumped on it as is medical care, our borders are secure and housing is affordable and accessable to everyone.

Recently, I flew with a senior CA, and i asked what was his primary concern in our next contract. He said pay, I said scope. It's as simple as that. He's senior, I'm junior. Our perspectives are different. I totally understand that from a guy in his mid 50s.

What the AS piece is just one pilot's objective view on the subject. From mgmt's point of view, it sounds like a good strategic move, but from a junior DL pilot's view, it's a sour lemon. To me, all these JV ventures are starting to become Boeing's, sub-contracting everything out to the lowest bidder or outside help, and DL is merely a brand that passengers recognize with. And we've all seen how well that is working out for Boeing?

That. Plus, why is it OK for RJs up to 76 seats to do our off list flying but if its a 737-900 then oh well 86 seats is fine. Srsly?
