Fisher, I'm right there with ya! Mostly just lurk on here, but I'm a fellow corporate guy hoping to catch the next wave with Big D.

Add another corporate guy to the list. My wife and I have struggled with the decision but based on our reading of the tea leaves we have decided to try to make the jump.

I've got a great corporate flying gig averaging about 250-300 hours a year but there is just too much uncertainty. That coupled with my age (34) and the hiring to come makes it a "now or never" scenario.

Sounds just like me (but 31) big D looks like a great place to get on esp if someone could get on at the beginning. Hopefully they will look at us lowly Corp guys.

U guys are talking about age like is something to worry, age over beauty...experience over inexperience...age has nothing to do with hiring or been hired is what your record, stability and the way you handle yourself when the sh**t hits the fan, you guys should go to Australia or even Europe, age is nothing, don't put those mental blocks on yourself....!!!!

Personally I think my age will be a pro, not a con. If I'm hired at 35 I have 30 years that I could work! To me they would rather hire someone that can have a 30 yr career vs hiring someone that's 50-55 that only can put in 10-15 yrs. I may be way off though. With significant retirements looming I would think they want the younger pilot over the older to give themselves some breathing room

I could argue that they don't want the younger pilot due to the time they will spend at the top of the pay scale.

I don't think they really care about any one age group either way. Some recruiters get all stoked off with the "number one draft pick" syndrome and being able to say "I hired the number one in 2040-something!" but if anything they will want to be set up for a smooth attrition curve and will likely hire competitive candidates in all age brackets.

Plus, eventually, more vacation, more sick leave, etc. Its a wash. Delta hires the best candidates regardless of age.

It's a great place to work guys. Jump in, the water is fine!

The hard part will be getting the interview in the first place. In theory, they shouldn't know my age at all until the see me in person. I worry about lots of things when it comes to getting on at Delta, but age isn't one of them.
