I'm tied up with mil stuff right now or I'd co-chair the effort. If tying the Vote No Campaign to DPA would lessen the effect, how about a gofundme effort to gather contributions from very concerned Delta pilots? If half the folks who voted No on the APC poll contributed $100 each, that would be some $20000 dollars to produce and distribute mailers - probably about right for 12,000 copies. $100 is a small price to pay compared to the losses we'll see if this TA becomes reality. I'd be the first donor.

I'm in! Sign me up. Also, I just went on a website last night and ordered 100 Red lanyards with black block lettering that states, "C2015 EARLY & OFF TARGET". If we would all order something similar to this, and hand then out on our trips, we could make a HUGE impact! Total investment was $147

Never said I like it. In fact I am leaning to a no vote. I still do not understand some parts of it and need more data. If you want someone to vote no and post obviously wrong data about the contract you lose all credibility. Everything you post becomes suspect.

Anybody mention telling the f\a's in the van that their profit sharing will be cut almost in half if t/a passes? That our pay raise is essentially being funded by their losing their profit sharing? (cost neutral contract to company!) could also tell gate agents, mechanics... If enough employees are complaining to the 'yes' voters, it might get the message across.

This is exactly what I talked about in the above post. Telling people the profit sharing will be cut in half. Why not just tell them the truth?

Jungle bus, thanks for your leadership on this issue. Would you be willing to coordinate with some of the other smart and well-reasoned folks here (Denny, ftb, Carl, gloopy, georgetg, etc) to compile a list of questions for the road show. They could then be disseminated here, fb, chitchat... Tape to the crapper walls, etc.

By "questions," I mean a kind of lengthy background followed by a short question. Not necessarily a filibuster--more like a question you might see from a congressman during a confirmation hearing. It gives his position, and at the very end, slips in a leading or difficult question he likely already knows the answer to put the subject publicly on the spot.

This might be a non-confrontational method to overcome the one-sided material presented by Dalpa and get our message out. Of course the actual questions won't actually be answered, but it would be a chance to get our message out there in front of a new audience. We'd only need a few to hammer home scope, sick leave, LCA trip pulls, etc.

Thoughts?

Excellent idea, PD. I'm currently creating a pamphlet to be distributed at roadshows, crewrooms, etc, and will be involving quite a few of the posters you mention. Having a list of questions to ask at the road shows, especially questions that tie into data in the pamphlet, would be very useful. Would you like to submit a few to this thread? That goes for everyone, actually.

Because FAs will believe anything you tell them? :p

In all seriousness, I've been telling FAs that our TA will cut our own profit sharing by about 33% at Delta's expected profit level this year, somewhat less if they make more or less, and they can expect Delta to implement the same for them if it passes. Their usual reaction: "Vote it Down!" Very amusing coming from ladies with anti-union bag tags....

Here's a couple I intend to ask at the ATL road show:

1. How much more money does Delta have to make before you stop giving them concessions in EVERY CONTRACT?? Is $4 Billion not enough? How about $6 Billion? Still not enough?

2. Why are you more concerned about solving Management's sick leave problem, than solving our retirement pay problem, and our 11 year old pay rate problem?

I'm fairly certain that if our TA is approved, then all the other employee groups will get a modest pay raise too. It will be a necessity for Delta to keep the peace.

From my experience in a democracy gaining the support of the middle 20% is the key to victory. Most of the time the 40% on either end are entrenched and will not have their minds changed. I know this because I hold an elected office in the state I live in and have held it for nearly eight years. (Not the guy in SLC with the same name BTW). When I am campaigning I need to not only find those middle 20% folks but I need to convince them that I am not only correct in my views but also trustworthy and deserving of their support.

Here is the part where I am going to totally open my self up. I have never voted no on a contract since I was hired by Delta in 1999. I am a fairly emotional person. I wear it right out there on my sleeve. If you have ever flown with me you know how much I love flying and how much I love Delta Air Lines. You know that I have wanted to be a pilot for Delta since I was ten years old. I reached my dream via Learjet’s in South Florida, L1011’s for a company in Miami and Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong. Fulfilling my dream of being a captain for Delta happened in January of this year.

I am the guy who stands at the gate and makes the IROPS PA’s. I am the guy who stands in the doorway or jet way during deplaning and boarding. I am the guy who makes sure the cabin crew eats. I am the guy who thanks the platinum’s and the diamond HVC’s for their loyalty. I tell them thank you for buying tickets so I can pay the mortgage on my home. When I put my 13 and 11-year-old boys to bed at night they pray for Richard Anderson and his family by name. They pray for every one of you every night. They pray for your safety and that you will make good decisions no matter what. I am that guy. I do not say this to lift myself up. I say it so you know my heart and how much I love what I do for Delta.

We need to find those middle 20% and convince them that this TA is wrong. I believe it to not only be wrong from the point of view of bad representation but I believe it to be unjustified. Many people had to purposefully make the decision to bring us this TA. Those people are in one of those groups of 40%. We can defeat them if we find the middle 20%. It can be done. Just look to your left or right. They are sitting right there.

When we deliver our message about our feelings we need to lead with how much we love our jobs and how much we love Delta. If we do that people will listen. Remember if they reject you without a fair hearing they are in the 40%. Move on. Find the 20%.

If you look back in history Ronald Reagan told America how great we were at one of the lowest points in modern American history. We needed to change some things. We listened and we let him do it. He laid the foundation for defeating Communism and it changed the world. Many of you reading this letter helped him do it. Our mission, in a way, is similar. We have to tell others how great flying for Delta is all the while telling them how bad this TA is. Find the 20%, They will listen. It will work. I have done it.

I am voting no.

In the fine tradition of TSquare changing his code name, Sailingfun is changing to Kevin Bacon. Based on his Animal House role.
