bobz hits a homer!!! "we have national alpa desk sitters making twice what these line pilots make....along with a pension, obscene housing allowance, car allowance, expense accounts, and the resume boost that enables them to turn on us as hired gun consultants after moving on.
you want to point fingers about compensation? I suggest you begin there....and not with your fellow line pilot."

bing bing bing bing.... This is the life MD is counting on!!!

Once again, thank you D folks for voting down this TA.

I am only saying this, because I haven't seen it written down explicitly anywhere yet, and I feel, for the sake of this industry, it needs to be stated in plain language.

The only sick policy which is acceptable for any professional pilot at any airline at any time is the one which works as follows:

Pilot calls scheduling: "Hello, please take me off my trip and mark me as sick".
Scheduler says: "Thank you sir, I hope you feel better soon".

Then, apart from the pilot being paid from his/her sick bank, absolutely nothing else happens : EVER.

No one has any right to details about your illness. NO ONE!

Any union "brother" who would work to undermine this system should be tarred and feathered, then expelled from the union, then prohibited from coming within 5 miles of an airport.

Yes, I know that was didactic, but really, how could your proposed sick language have even ever seen the light of day?

Dalpa crafting the SL policy would not surprise me. During Bankruptcy if you were out on LTD you lost a sizable portion of the various payouts. I can't recall the specifics, but it was as much a 25-50% less than the other pilots.

Wait and see, when it comes to the payout of the JV money they will more than likely exclude LTD. It appears that Dalpa's attitude towards LTD and SL is that people who use it are lying and cheating.

The sick leave is the most convoluted program one could write. Mostly, so we wouldn't want to call in sick. It's all about productivity. The bean counters figure they can get X% of sick pilots to fly on any given day rather than jumping through this hoop. How could our negotiators not just stand up and tell them we're going to the Flying Pig for lunch, see you later.

The Flying Pig is still in business? Wow! My most favorist place in 1965........Two end sandwiches and you may have to call in stuffed.

Not surprisingly, one of "our" current negotiators (Heiko's replacement) was the guy spearheading the LTD screw job you describe above. He went so far as to call guys on LTD at the time "criminals." And he did it in a PowerPoint presentation. And now he's the guy negotiating our sick leave.

He and some other familiar names did everything they could to lower the payout to LTD guys.

There was a DFR lawsuit, but it was dismissed on a statute of limitations technicality. Otherwise it was a slam-dunk.
