Some helpful takeaways from this thread:

1) Pilot customer engagement = pedophilia. Never give out wings unless hermetic barrier exists between you and kids. And don’t even think about giving “Billy” that airplane model!
2) The PA button needs to be soldered off. I hereby pledge to put away my old JetTrivia maps permanently no matter how badly I want to tell the pax about Niagara Falls at 2am.
3) John Wayne movies make excellent instructional guides when dealing with recalcitrant FAs (and kids).

Did I miss anything?

Let me see..... checking... looking... nope, you got it all.

I too have seen some of this "engagement" that went above and beyond, and not in a good way.
I always say goodby and thanks from the cockpit door. If there is a long delay at the gate I'll go up and make a PA as the gate agents sometimes don't have all the facts.
Walking through FC or pinning wings on the kiddies? No, I'm not going there. I'm a pilot not Julie from the Love Boat.

There's guys actually putting the wings on the kids? Why? They crippled or something? I just hand the wings to the kids, they can put them on themselves, unless they are younger kids, then I give the wings to the parents and tell em to be careful of the pin on the back.

As for PAs, use KISS. Or, as Joe Friday used to say, " Just the facts, Ma'am."

There is no reason to make a gate PA if the flight is on time and the operation is normal. I see captains making gate PA's for every single flight. Usually they are telling the passengers what the gate agents and flight attendants should be telling them. We've got some weird dudes at this company. Luckily they are far and few between.
