Don't forget the options of different kinds of flying. Real international to Asia, Europe, Central and South America. Same money? What is his upgrade time at LUV? In case you forgot, we have a 14 month captain here at DAL. Yes he will have 2500 ahead of him here at DAL, but we have 13,000 pilots on the list, of which some (70% or so) are GONE in the next 10 years. That puts him in a widebody left seat with 20 years to go. Same money? I don't see your argument.

Just curious. What's the difference between being number 6 and number 206 at SWA? Here, once you throw out the super premium airplanes, the difference between being number 1 and number 1000 really isn't all that great. All are senior widebody captains of some sort, and few of them have to fly heinous schedules, holidays or any of that crap. (Betcha they will in a heartbeat if we ever got holiday pay though. Just sayin')

At Southwest we have a website that calculates our seniority at different points in our careers and accounts for different rates of growth.

Does Delta have any sort of seniority predictor? If a 31 year old guy started in July how long would it take to hold weekends off in a wide body in both the the right seat and eventually left seat?

You would most likely end in the top 100-150 at delta when you are 65

At one time it was two years to the left seat at TWA, DYODD.

Yes Delta does have that. I remember seeing it on the ALPA website a while back, but can't remember how to navigate to it. I use http://www.ezopenboard.com/delta/cgi/retire.cgi

I'm 34 and started class about 10 months ago. My last 10 years I'll be around 2300, finishing off my last year around 400. There have been a lot of young dudes (2050 retirement) that have been hired in the past year. Someone getting hired at 31 would still have an awesome career!

Looks like in 2017 there will be a train running multiple times a day between Orlando and Miami, airport to airport:

In my category, senior guys do get holiday pay... it's called green slips!

I'm also considering a move to Tampa in the next few years and a UAL commute to either EWR or IAH. My kids will all be out of the house in a couple years. The way I see it I'll be saving over $1000/month in state income taxes alone. Beyond that add no need for a crash pad and I'd just as soon buy 3 or 4 airline tickets a month if I have to and be able to live where I want to live and still come out ahead.

Rerun your numbers factoring in the high home insurance costs plus very high property taxes combined with the deductibility of the state income taxes off your federal taxes you may find most of that 1000 month disappears. Depends on the state you are coming from.
