From: Left seat of a big one.
I have an interview scheduled with Delta and if offered a job plan on moving to Seattle. Could anybody give me some idea what to expect as far as base growth potential and how long it will take to hold SEA if I take first SEA seat available? I'm guessing as a new guy I would likely be put in NYC initially and possibly on the wrong fleet for an eventual SEA base as well. Commuting initially from SEA to NYC would be killer- where do people living in SEA commute to once they have enough seniority to leave NYC? Thanks for any insight.

Buford, most junior Seattle guy has been on property for less than one year. Things are moving very fast. If possible, once hired, get on the 737 if you have a choice. That is the junior seat in Seattle. I think Minneapolis would be the best choice commuting to Seattle. Best of luck.

Hired March 15, last 73 in class. LAX in Oct, SEA Jan. Commuting to NYC sucked but doable. LAX easy commute.
And I can't tell you how nice it is to sit at home on RES in SEA! FYI, 2 7ER guys with seniority in the 13xxx range got SEA this last bid.
Good luck.

Canadair CS 100 training begins one year from now. NYC and SEA will likely be the first domiciles. Should be NP for a new guy to position on the correct fleet for SEA even if it means a stint in the Big Apple for a bit. Like others have alluded to, reserve in SEA is decent if you live there, so it's possible to have a good flying and home life even if you bid in junior on the 73N or 7ER. The CS fleet is assuming nearly 100% new-hires in the right seat and some very junior captains, so opporrunities will be good for advancement there.

I'm sorry. I know I am not helping. Just, well, never mind.

my personal opinion is the c series wont see SEA for years. They are going to put them in NYC now with the whole 88 and GPS issue. Before it was "these airplanes are going to seattle" now every memo in teh past few months mentioning it stopped saying that and started to plant the seed for NYC
