Retention

If you accept the money as an FO you have to take the first upgrade. If you don’t then Your still an FO and you would be correct. But still in seniority order other than that!

But we do know. All CAP pilots are after all “flow” pilots. The 24 months as a Captain is a MINIMUM. Doesn’t mean you go at 24 months. The last flow pilot is probably at least 36 months from flowing ( if not longer). And CAPS won’t start till after that.

I say it's more like the most junior captain is 36 months out.

This is more, but not completely, accurate. Doing the basic math of 20/mo of everyone on property as of 6/3/21 (i.e. flow-eligible) minus those who have already selected protection, 1383 pilots (minus a few who will have to retire) remain to flow, which is 69 months. For CAs only, 919 remain to flow, which is 46 months. To flow everyone not under protection (i.e. flows + CAP), 90 months. In that amount of time, with the requisite bit of initiative, you can get hired at pretty much any airline you want.
Bottom line, if you're coming here for the CAP, you're coming for the wrong reason. Come for the bases, commuter language, pay, and/or warm fuzzies of being part of the "Delta family;" the CAP should barely enter your calculus. This is not to disparage the excellent work of NJ and the negotiating committee; the CAP is an excellent fallback and very much needed to keep us competitive and move forward toward the ultimate goal of folding regional flying back into mainline. It's just not what the average pilot should be hanging their hat on.

Then why change to 24 months? Makes no sense I’m first waive CAP and I’m a solid 4 years out
