It’s not too bad as long as you can drive. No nonstop flights up to NYC anymore, and even when American had them to LGA they weren’t worth the headache. I’m just South of Philly so it’s about a 2-2.5h drive typically. Between gas and tolls for the round trip it’s not as cheap as you might imagine driving to work would be (tolls are usually $32-38 each way with EZ Pass to JFK and LGA), but it’s cheaper than Amtrak, and more convenient than taking one of the bus lines. Best thing about it is despite the expense you don’t have to worry about catching a commute flight home at the end of your trip.

I’d say no, because if you hit traffic, which you will you still need to park and take the bus or airtrain to get into the terminal. That is about 30 minutes minimum you have to account for outside of the drive time. It’s possible you could do it from N. Philly but not reliably or consistently.

Wondering what others have done in similar situations. Crash pad? Stage somewhere closer but not quite NYC???

Thanks, that was kind of my suspicion. Did the test drive a few weeks ago and it was <2 hours door-to-door but in good traffic. I don't want to get a call and then white-knuckle it the whole way to the airport.

Thanks, that's probably what I'll do too. Was thinking the Bridgewater or Morristown area would be relatively near to home but also close enough to hop into NYC if called. I'm in the central Bucks County area so I'm a bit closer than you friend in Ardmore, but I think just far enough the trying to leave home when called might be cutting it close.
