67? Where did that number come from? I had only seen a mid-50s number posted for total 200s on property

Might have been 57. I was tired. One of the VP's of Ops (can't remember his name) came and told the class.

Whatever number the company posted late 2015/early 2016 was the last hard number I have seen. Since then there have been lines of "further expansion" and the like, but I'd imagine they will figure out how to staff NYC and DTW following the final wind down of Shuttle's 145 operations. Always seemed to be a handful of them in Detroit, usually routed through CMH when I spoke with those crews.

Slightly off topic: I have a Bose A20 and a clarity aloft (TSO version) which I have modified to high hell. I plan on carrying both for a little bit to see which one I like more.
What do you typically see on the line? I would assume Telex and DC pro x are pretty popular. I just want to hear what people use as their prefered headset.

I'm a big fan of the Clarity Aloft. I have the Pro version as well and just sent it in for repairs after heavy use in 91 (Cessna days) and 121 ops. There was a short on the right earpiece. Turn around time was 1 week. Fixed with no cost whatsoever. They also threw in some more ear and microphone foams. My headset is well over 5 years old so having that kind of customer service is rare.

What's up with Skywest opening a DTW base?

My guess is that they will be using Detroit 200 crews to cover New York flying until they get the staffing where they want it out there. Also, I was in lga yesterday and it appears that they are building a much larger crew room to accommodate the increase in crew for that base

Skywest already does a decent bit of DTW flying, this just cuts out deadheads to/from MSP and ORD.

Interesting to see Gojetz leaving LGA for DTW; heard last week from an ASA guy they were doing more NYC and less DTW on their side this summer.

This isn't a GoJet choice. This is Delta moving GoJet to a location that GoJet can handle. They are a mess of an airline - perennially a bottom class airline in terms of performance for Delta and United.

You can't run a LGA hub operation with crews at an outstation.

I had the A20 for a while and it's insanely quiet in the CRJ but o switched to the 850 a couple months ago for something lighter. Once you get past the increase in noise vs. the A20 there very comfortable.

I've flown with people with both of those and Telex. By far the Telex is the worst as far as letting ambient noise in, then CA and then Bose. What you do to prevent it is turn the volume of your intercom down, that is also the squelch for what you hear from the other guy. About half way and it'll cut out and the mic will only go hot when he is talking or atc transmission.

I fly with a CLarity Aloft pro about half the time, never had a complaint from anyone. It's very comfortable aside from the really long legs (LGA- anywhere in TX for example) where the earplugs being in for 4+he gets tiring.

That is true. We will be shifting flying from DTW to LGA and ATL for the summer to "cover another regional that cannot handle its own flying."

Telex 850 is the best of the group for the CRJ 200/900. You can stay in hot mic (provided you use and replace "as needed" the mic foam "condom"). They last a few years, cheap to replace and normally are falling apart when the ear foams die, $30 for ear covers and a mic cover. Had mine for almost a decade and never heard a complaint from either seat. Quiet (noise cancelling), comfortable for long periods (although I tend to go topless when more than 2 hours enroute), and you can breathe normally without the other guy hearing it. Some love the ear clamps (DC and such.... I don't get it), and others use the Bose with mic (more expensive and can be uncomfortable if you wear sunglasses (personally, always do unless it's night flying). Keep it simple. Buy a pair of 850's from the start and be done with it. You can wear glasses, or sunglasses and always be comfortable, cockpit is quiet, and the other guy isn't listening to you huffing and puffing over comments and thoughts. Words are easily conveyed on the mic and intercom and all is well. Until you fly in a super loud or super quiet cockpit (CRJ's are middle spectrum in my book) the -850 is a winner for the cost and benefit. But hey, try whatever. Most are using 850's or 750's with plugs. Some linger outside, and they seem to always preface the fact that's they are trying something different. 850's work great out of the box and and are proven to work well for all conditions. Plus, they fit in the flight case, hopefully soon the soft side briefcase with the efb. Time will tell, been hearing that line since 2007.
