It's over 8 years at the point for a new hire. We've been hiring such big classes, that the flow time gets longer ever month for a new hire. The only thing that could shorten the flow time is if we start sending more flows per month than the bare minimum contractually require (more than likely not going to happen) or attrition to other airlines (unpredictable, but attrition should pick up in the next couple of years).

It's hard to believe many would stick around when there's going to be even more retirements coming up at other places. The flow is only good for the guy who's got the class scheduled.

And, one has to ask, if we're all going to go when we 'just can', from management's perspective, what's the point of metering flow? They're going to lose the pilots either way. At least with unmetered flow, most go in seniority order, give reason for those that prefer AA a good reason to stay on until flow, and you have a real recruiting tool for new hires. With the way management is handling it, from a pilot perspective, flow is an OK backup plan... but just OK. And in the coming hiring situation, an 8 year flow is barely an OK back up plan. They really seem out of touch with reality imo. |
