The Checkairman is one of the best the crj fleet has to offer. He's a passoniate guy and a very good instructor. It's unfortunate this happened and would be a shame if we lose him as a checkairman. I know there are a group of guys that may just be doing it for the money or a box to mark on an app, but I can guarantee you he isn't one of them.

We aren't a weekend flying club. We are professional airline pilots. If I'm a checkairman I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the "new hire" next to me knows the basics of flying and landing. At least enough not to total an aircraft.
There's only so much that the instructor can do...this is coming from 4 years of CFI experience with Chinese students in a cramped Cessna. Teaching power on stalls in 110 degree heat while wearing a cheap polo is not a pretty sight. Especially when one of your students insists on flying "commando".

Maybe....perhaps....that we don't hire student pilots? Sure...learning a new plane and all is fine and dandy. But basic flying skills are assumed when receiving your wings at an airline.

I'm guessing what happened is the NH idled the power too far out like he used to in his Cessna not taking into account spool up time and the bottom just ended up falling out under him. Would a NH get canned in this situation or just get sent back for re-training?

And they are trying to pull back the ATP rule? What a joke. If this happens with the current standard of hiring, these hard landings will be smoking holes with 250 hour wonders in CRJ's and Ejets.
What was the weather like in this event? How new was the LCA? Eitherway, that sort of impact is worse than just not flaring while on the GS (600 ft a min?) with approach power in. That wont even produce a G load over the "hard landing limit" set by the manufacturer. So they both messed up big time. Like someone said, had to have been pulling back power too early, or some thing else.

The instructor most likely won't be doing any ioe at the minimum.
