Met with Recruitment and confused.
 
Hi all this is my first post sub so I apologize if this question has been asked.

I recently spoke with Envoy Recruitment and I’m not really sure if they were blowing smoke up the a** or no. To reference I’m a CFI at a major flight school still around 700 hours off from 1500. With that being said let me continue.

1. When speaking to them about the cadet program they mentioned that there is over 300 active pilots who came out the cadet program. Is this true? Is the cadet program really worth it?

2. When I browsed the forums I asked about overstaffing and what that means for me and there answer was “ Envoy has a plan and there is a reason for it” ( sounds like a BS management answer but also not so sure)

3. When asked about pay and whether it will be met to Republic and Endeavor they answered Envoy isn’t having problems hiring therefore it isn’t on the books??????? (Made no sense to me)

So with all that being said is Envoy gonna be a place of the future or should I start looking else where. They were really pushing towards me applying at the cadet level but I’m getting mixed thoughts from the forums and messages to Recruitment.

Why pay more if there isn’t a shortage? I hope they have a plan for all these guys on reserve. Perhaps they will double the flow this year to clear out the fat. We all know that’s not going to happen

1. If you end up going to Envoy and you do not join the cadet program you are just throwing away money. The only question-Is a Envoy for you?
300 sounds true. It's been going on since 2014 and I know several people who have gone through.

2. I'm not sure what the plan is but I think there's something that has to be in the works. At least I hope.

3. Envoy will only raise pay if they can't hire enough pilots. So NO we do not get Endeavor or Republic rates.

They get all the warm bodies they need paying 38 an hour, why should they waste money paying 45 or 50 for the same warm bodies?

Blowing smoke? I don’t think so. I’m of the opinion recruitment doesn’t have a roadmap for the future and working off the best information they have at the time. The pilot group is left in the dark on any real plans. A healthy dose of sceptisizm is a good thing but I’d dial it back a bit.

As for coming here, you have time to sit on the sidelines and note changes but in general I would look closely at other regionals, mainly Endeavor. Our pay is falling further and further behind the industry and at present there is little to no premium pay opportunities. Guys at Mesa make $2.00 hour less but their W2 at the end of the year will be double or triple an Envoy FO’s. Just an example of pay, not saying Mesa is a better place to be.

Wish this wasn’t true. Also, we get whatever the other regionals don’t want for destinations. You land, van ride to hotel and in the room you go until wake up call. Slam, click.

Man they must make a ton of money over there at MESA then.... 120k as an FO. Sounds pretty good.

I was in a position similar to you and ended up choosing Envoy for a variety of personal reasons that wouldn't be in play for most people (family in both Envoy and AA flight depts). My advice, knowing nothing about your situation other than what you've already told us, is to either join Envoy as a cadet or don't join Envoy at all right now.

However, if you do not have a 4 year degree and cannot or will not get one (or are otherwise not a competitive applicant for street hire at the real airlines), consider Envoy, PSA, or Piedmont very carefully.

What if their plan is to build up a big surplus of bodies to ride out the attrition of having uncompetitive pay for the next 5 years?
