Company Short and Long Term Disability
Wondering what the general consensus on the company's STD (easy Hard Lemonade) and LTD plan is?
Is it worth it? Is ALPA's plan better? Or maybe a different one?
Also, the company's paperwork states they are going to charge a "Spousal Surcharge" of $50 per pay period, or $1200 per year.
What in THE HELL is that? A penalty just for being married, even if you elect no benefits?
Where's that phone number for the ACLU?

You just need to fill in a form saying they don’t have the ability to gain coverage at their own employer and you aren’t charged the spousal surcharge.

When I enrolled online for benefits I had trouble getting rid of the spousal surcharge. I wasn’t even getting health benefits, as my wife’s benefits are much better and cheaper. Out of frustration I just selected the box that benefits weren’t available to her through her employer... That was the only way I could get rid of it. I figured they couldn’t ding me on it if I wasn’t buying the insurance anyway.

Could anyone give me insight as to how the good/bad the insurance is at Envoy? I have a small issue that might require quick arthroscopic surgery. If I bring it up in the interview I don’t want it to hamper me going forward unless they would be able to work with me pushing back a class date till I was cleared to fly. It’s not something that can keep me from being able to fly but I’d like to be pain free also. After getting hired if then deciding surgery is needed would you thing the company would have any reprimand for such? Thanks in advance.
