You shouldn't have any issues getting OCL... My class (Feb) was given OCL and DCL as options, with most DECs bidding DCL.

New bid was just released. Bulk of the slots were PHX (60)(CA and FO) but since most who will want PHX are probably currently in DFW it will likely create backfills. There were 20 each in ORD and MIA, only 12 in DFW.

60 each for FOs everywhere but MIA.

What's the effective date of this bid?

Closes 4/1, run on 4/4, final 4/8 with a prelim usually out 1-3 days before the final depending on the complexity of the bid. Effective dates are whenever the awarded get on the training schedule (flow plan ) posted on or right around the 15th of each month.

So whatever slots are unfilled in the bid are offered to new hires in training? How often are bids run?

I start Indoc 4/3 and am hoping for PHX eventually. I am guessing some people won’t give up a hard line in DFW for reserve in PHX with only 12 lines in PHX. With ORD losing the E145 flying soon I suspect ORD E175 will go a little more senior than DFW. I expect we will be offered ORD or DFW captain on 4/3 and I am fine with either one, but I would like to know how often to expect movement between bases.

All of the 145 pilots already a 175 future status. The most senior pilots are in DFW and few of those (MOST) senior will not bid PHX because they are local to DFW or at least a painless commute that works for them. But if you live in PHX or anywhere west of the Rockies, your QOL will likely go up in PHX. As far as exactly where you stand and if you’ll be giving up a line in DFW for reserve in PHX, no way to know until after the first bid. But they will likely stagger in the actual movement into PHX as the flying grows.

Bids have for the last five plus years been quarterly, announced near the end of the quarter and closed/posted first week of following month, with the exception of the 145 displacement was run a month early.

I got a call from a recruiter last week stating they are now back to hiring FOs, but still no word on a class date. Does anyone who is non 121 FO have any luck securing a class date recently ? Btw applied in oct and got a CJO in November.

Congrats guys! Still trying to find a job myself but good to see quick turn around.

I received a call from the recruiting department three weeks ago to submit my packet for captain’s review board, and got a CJO today. I interviewed back in July. 4 May onboarding date. No prior 121 experience with little bit of mil fixed wing time.

Latest (displacement) bid award shows Phoenix going fairly junior. Captain as junior as 2/9/23 hire (a good number of new hire DEC basically got PCL 1-2 months into their training cycle) and FO went as junior as a 3/2/23 hire. A good number of MIA FOs as well.

Ravenwing 04-09-2023 06:41 AM

The last two new hire classes have all been assigned ORD E175, both FOs and DECs. We started Indoc on 4/3 and were told they couldn’t take into consideration the preliminary bid award vacancies because it wasn’t final even though they waited until 4/8 to assign us ORD. It’s quite possible DECs in the next few classes will be offered DFW and PHX as there appears to be vacancies, MIA CA is still senior. We are told we will likely receive another base assignment by the time we are done with IOE.

Do you know if the Dallas base is junior for new hire FO's and wait time between orientation and Indoc right now ?

You get 1-5 weeks off between orientation and Indoc depending on your class seniority. You want the time to memorize the study guide they give you.

On the final system bid dated 4/8, the bottom FOs all received Miami or Dallas and the last FO to get Phoenix was only about 25 from the bottom. The DECs hired in February were all able to hold DFW, PHX, or ORD. Some MIA FOs were displaced to MIA CA but I don’t know their date of hires. I think everyone is likely to get awarded a new base within 3-4 months of hire, and the only senior position, MIA CA, isn’t quite as senior as it used to be. I am just annoyed they only run system bids 4 times a year and the timing didn’t work in my favor.

FWIW, there were displacements to Captain pretty much to the top of the list. This is an indication that they have run out of DECs to hire. Good news finally for those trying to get on as FO.

With the only exception being the 145 displacement bid being out a month early, Envoy has run bids quarterly the past five plus years. AA has been running bids quarterly but by contract only has to run three a year. SWA allows monthly base hopping, but there are places that run bids less frequently than quarterly. Timing’s everything. Just the way things go.
