I’m biting my tongue so hard I may bleed to death...

The LGA guys can comment because they know better, you can think of it as a very high priority standby. But if a plane is full, you are not riding on it.

I never had an issue getting a confirmed seat if I did as the LOA says and book my A12 ticket 7 days out. As long as there are a certain # (10 I think) of seats open and 24 hours out you get a confirmed seat

I 2 leg it to LGA and had zero issues. I finished IOE in October and have a composite line this month, but if projections for April hold I could go back to reserve.

Positive space means they will kick out a paying passenger to accommodate you. So that is why it is not PS. Oversales also have higher priority than A12, so they can (and will) sell a plane full even if you have a confirmed seat.
How often this happens, I have no personal experience so I can't comment on it. But it's possible.

maybe it’s possible, but every time it happened to me, I kept my seat, even on crazy days with lots of cancellations around the holidays.

The good thing is that even though these would be unpaid removals, you have an unlimited number of missed trips because of this.

Your experience with A12 is nothing like mine. A12 is nearly worthless in my experience... in some scenarios, worse than D2 even.

Any time the only way on the plane is via jumpseat.

it could create confusion, when you check in with an upgraded listing it removes de FDJ next to your name. If there are other guys trying to get it, they might skip you.
