OT

Why are people picking up OT with guys on the street? Asking for a friend...

don’t give me the work action excuse.

aewhistleblower 10-05-2020 04:37 PM

Because, I have bills to pay and I don’t like to live paycheck to paycheck.

Crimson5 10-05-2020 04:41 PM

If I trip trade down in value for, drop a turn, or Blue Falcon steals my nice 2 day for a 4 hour 4 day, I go below guarantee. Is there really anything wrong with picking up a turn to try to get back to guarantee?

aewhistleblower 10-05-2020 04:42 PM

Just to add to my previous post, I stand in unity with all the furloughed pilots

Toolbox9909 10-05-2020 04:46 PM

Tell your friend both (furlough and open time) are caused by mismanagement, and to mind her own business on what happens at The 'Voy.

An FO on reserve guarantee makes about $1000 per paycheck after tax, health, union, and 5-7% 401k deductions per paycheck. Is that reason enough for you?

Tellheritwasntu 10-05-2020 05:22 PM

I pick up OT because I like exchanging my time for goods and services (I don’t live paycheck to paycheck at base pay).

skyemiles2 10-05-2020 05:29 PM

Have you seen some of the reserve lists?

If people who do want or need to work don’t pick up OT, people who don’t want to work will get JM’d.

There is no cost savings to the company in that case and an even further reduction in QOL.

Not everyone lives rent free in their parents basement. We all have bills. I don’t pick up OT hardly ever, but I’m not going to judge anyone for doing what they do because I assume they have their reasons.

MEGAFUPM 10-05-2020 05:32 PM

I want to expand on my answer. Many pilots also have grown to a certain lifestyle that depends on a steady 10-15 hours of OT and the expenses that come with it. Not a great reason, but it's there.

One of my main reasons for not being against OT pickups is the company is not trying to save costs, it's trying to take permanent concessions. For example, we've had two bases full of pilots getting released a month at a time, on full pay guarantee. Why not offer a leave of absence every month for these bases? The other two bases have been zeroing out on reserves for the past few months weekly, while again we have had 2 bases full of pilots being released for the full month, who are then able to pickup OT on their days off. Why not offer any TDYs? None of it makes sense if a company is actually trying to save money, so I'll continue to operate as normal and pickup as I see fit until they actually come to the table with realistic cost savings measures.

Ijustlikeflying 10-05-2020 05:39 PM

Black lists are starting at other airlines with guys on the street for dudes picking up OT. Not saying that’s happening here, but be careful. That’s how UPS got all their pilots recalled a few years back, no one picked up OT and furloughs were recalled very quickly.

If you peer into history as well, it’s extremely frowned upon to pickup OT with guys on the street for those new to the industry.

Also Dave Ramsey is a great podcast for those that need help with their finances and not spending beyond their means..

so you budget above min guarantee or you got downgraded? The latter is understandable, not so much the other. maybe it’s time you reevaluate your lifestyle.

no one should have to pick up OT to make ends meet. if you don’t budget well below min guarantee, I’ve got no sympathy for you.

Have you seen how much a UPS pilot gets paid compared to an envoy pilot?

No, they're not. And a UPS 2nd year FO makes double what a 10 year captain makes here. Not even nearly a similar comparison. Nice try though.

naw but I’ve seen the pay rates at envoy and I’m assuming you like to live like you’re a ups pilot but you’re really an envoy pilot.

try budgeting better.

BS. Anyone not living under a rock has heard the rumors.

Stop hiding behind “a friend” and “other airlines.”

I said others do, and that it wasn’t a great excuse. You'd expect someone from an airline that still uses all paper to be able to read. And nope, never had faith in the flow and planned as such.

But seriously 10-05-2020 06:28 PM

This is exactly why they say not to pickup OT. Theoretically it is to force the company to be understaffed and bring people back. No one cares about saving the company money.

I’m skeptical that it actually has any real affect, but it does show solidarity.

ouch! “MEGA” burn!

so we’re on the same page then, my apologies.

envoy forum is always a great source of entertainment.

Threads like these will cost us a lot of money, when company sues the union for illegal work actions.
Just so you know, they are watching.

I understand the logic. I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t want the furloughed pilots to be employed.

Threatening your fellow pilots with a blacklist is sleazy, and trying to organize anything IS a work action. If you think they won’t notice, you are delusional.

No one is organizing anything.

It would be the ultimate Envoy move if they did sue us over it, btw. They’ve been demanding for 6 months that we give up the ability to pick up OT, then they turn around and sue us for not picking up OT. Classic.

FullThrust 10-05-2020 07:09 PM

There are no “blacklists”. No one cares. You want to pick up OT? Go for it. Don’t want to pick up OT? Go for it.

Great. Glad that is settled. This subject can die and not be spoken of again, and everyone can just continue to do what they are doing.

To answer all your posts,

First of all, No, I’m not downgrading.

Second of all, keep your financial advice to yourself. I spend my money the way I want. Who the f* are you to tell me to re-evaluate my lifestyle? And, I don’t need you to be sympathetic.

Third of all, go back to your PDT threads. You really ****ed me off.

I'm curious, how are these supposed blacklists to be used? You going to refuse to friend them on Facebook? Call in sick if you're scheduled to fly with them?

Exactly. It’s all chest-thumping nonsense. If you are putting away less money in savings / retirement because you are refusing to pickup OT, for example, just remember - no one who is furloughed right now will give 2 ******** when you retire without enough money to your name.

Shouldn’t you be back on the PDT forum talking about being the lowest paid of the three wholly-owned carriers and being scared of landing with flaps 22°? I think the liquor is talkin to you again Mr. Lahey.

hahahahah!!! you’re right I’ve been at the LC a lot lately. I’ll head back over where we were able to mitigate our furloughs at our lowest paid regional where we know where just that, a regional.

It will have been worth it. If I had thought of it, I'd have done it myself. I'll remember in the future next time I see a thread running wild that shouldn't be.

tell your friend when you look in the mirror, that the furloughs got a lot of bonuses as new hires and a 40 percent pay raise (about) while they did not care of what was happening to the active pilot on property. Tell your friend go sell their shi+ to nancy.
just an opinion.
