Not because I get there faster (the difference is miniscule enough I'm amazed at how many people insist on driving out of their minds) but because if I do drive the speed limit, I'm so much slower than everyone else I feel like I'm being the safety hazard. Not because I don't think the rules don't apply to me. I can see your point on that as far as some people not thinking the rules apply to them. I just don't like the notion that if you'll break this rule it means that you'll break that rule.

CA has a reasonable rule on driving the prevailing speed. It’s a rule that lets you break the rule for safety. Sounds familiar. We have one of those too. Deviating from any rule necessary to handle an emergency. As I said it’s the habitual rule breaking culture and the motivation behind it that’s an issue.

I drive the speed limit on cruise control listening to “she gonna pop it” by Juicy J. I’d personally feel like a big fat wet kitty if I gave 1/2 an F if others were driving faster than me. Safety hazard? Grow a sack bruh.

It’s why I am merciless deplaning a disruptive passenger. If they can’t follow simple sit in your own seat. Stow your bag. Etc how can I trust that in an emergency evacuation they will follow instructions without question?

Same with crew. We have procedures. Follow them. I hate the guys that ask me “are you standard” because they are not. I’m
as standard as I can be. Striving for perfection. Certainly not there yet. If you’re catch me being non standard call me on it. I’ll fix it.

It’s the ATTITUDE towards the rules.

So you never broken a rule in your life? Wow, St. Peters is going to have the pearly gates wide open for you. Just be careful of your glass house, it tends to come back and bite you in the ass in the end.

You clearly didn’t read the post. I did not say that nor mean to imply that. I do not make it a habit to consistently break the rules and that’s kind of the point. I hate black and white thinking.

black and white thinking like if somebody doesn't put their phone on airplane mode they will eventually crash a triple seven?

I am pretty sure I didn’t say that. But you might crash a 145.

I won’t argue against the validity of following the rules. It’s frankly, usually, less work to do it right than to continuously fight/hide/confuse by doing things “your own way”.

That said, the idea that phones affect flight instruments is nonsense. It may have been true (I think it was) with much older phones, and much older avionics. Flight crews, FA’s, PAX, all leave their phones on transmit mode on a regular basis, and there are not 145’s falling out of the sky left and right.

Although we STILL don’t have an NTSB report out on the Presque Isle 145 that missed the runway - to the left IIRC.
