the union’s leverage in contract negotiations for long-term gains is the short-term chaos from attrition. The loa will reduce attrition and
will substantially hamper the union in contract negotiations

The main problem seems to be that with that amount of money, they could remove pay band B, fix reserve, get rid of red/redder, add duty rigs for soft pay, add 15 bucks an hr on hourly rates, and put JE and Todd in a cage and donate them to Texas A&M so scientists could study the purest form of human evil. They could make Envoy an amazing regional, and have 100 million left to spare. They would have a line out the door of new hires wanting to work there.
I get it, if you're a year or two from flow, you don't care about any of that. You'll accept it will suck and then collect the check. Can't blame you. But they COULD fix the airline with that amount of money. It's the bottom half of seniority list that gets nothing, and they are the ones leaving.

Seriously, it ONLY reduces attrition to the degree that it raises QOL for our pilots. What is so hard to understand about that?

When has the Union ever had any leverage? In these last few years any improvement to the contract has come from the company reaching out to us and if we say no to their approach they’ll just tell us to shove it.

This exactly. We are kidding ourselves if we think the union has absolutely any negotiating power with this deal.
We throw this deal back and AA will just say fine, you get nothing. If they wanted to negotiate they would have opened it up for conversation.
