APA pilots are already at WOs on loan from mainline. They flowed or where hired then returned to their WO, it is already happening for non seniority list positions.
The AA DO or whoever releases them to outside employment at the WO, and their longevity and seniority are protected at AA. They are considered “on special assignment” by AA.
You think it’s illogical because you didn’t know it was already happening, or illogical for mass seniority based positions like LCA, sim instructors, maybe line CAs?

But again those are NON seniority list people.

I don’t disagree, AA wants to keep this dumpster fire staffed at all costs. Time will tell what gets concocted to slow attrition.

Imagine wanting to work at AA who will only hire you with extreme reluctance, structuring their hiring to minimize the proportion of flows they're forced to accept, instead of United which is happy to have your skills in their flight deck as a street hire.
Feels bad man.

Just found out that a new hire class at United a few weeks ago had 64 pilots in it and 12 of them had come from Envoy. Apparently more pilots are being hired to United from Envoy than to AA. This doesn’t include the 2 pilots in the class that were at AA and left to come to United. Not sure why the flow through isn’t better, but my guess is that AA can’t replace the WO pilots fast enough, so they don’t want to cannibalize their own pilot group. Its almost unthinkable that they’d want to hire ANY of the WO pilots to AA since its causing unintended consequences.

On one of the earnings calls they were talking about how the regionals are getting decimated with pilot attrition. LCCs, JB etc are hiring to replace pilots going to United, Delta, Southwest, and regionals have the double whammy of losing pilots to LCCs, JB etc as well as the Majors. I think the regionals are going to look much different at the end of 2023 because the number of pilots being hired at just UA, AA, DL and SW is something like 9,000 in the next 2 years. United has started putting 70 a week in new hire class, which they can do since some new hires are going to the 777 and 787 out of new hire, so they have more training slots available and won’t back-up the 737, 757/767 or Airbus pipelines.
Are the regionals getting a lot of new hires to replace pilots leaving? I can’t imagine they will find enough to fill all the slots they need.

Every co-pilot in my Reserve squadron is going to Republic. Not sure about the civ/91 side, but any young, 750 to 1500 hour reserve guy I know got picked up at a regional. The regionals will change, no doubt, but there are plenty of young guys/gals at the beginning of their careers that are catching the wave too, albeit at the regional level.
