So, it is okay to defraud your employer and work a side job while out sick? And then lie about it when confronted... Just until the photos were shown?

I feel bad for him too as an individual, but he played the system and got caught.

Oh FYI, it is corporate policy to disclose any side jobs one may have, even if outside of aviation. HINT HINT.

If you're out on FMLA you don't get paid. If I have a health issue that prevents me from flying (i.e. Sinuses) but doesn't prevent me from leading an otherwise normal life, you bet your butt I'm going to have a "side job" so I can pay some bills.

The only side jobs this company is concerned with is flying done outside of the company. It's none of their business if I work as a Walmart greeter on my days off.

If he was doing outside flying and lying, well...stupid him.

1) Every manager this pilot worked with knew he had a side job. So yes, management knew.

2) being too sick to legally fly does not make one too sick to work other jobs that don't require the same physical well being.

You obviously seem know this person. You're cool with the lame reasons given to let him go? No letter of reprimand? None of that?
This was nothing more than heavy handed scare tactics to keep the rest of the group in line, in my opinion.

The fact that any idiot thinks that too sick to fly must mean too sick to get a pizza to go should be investigated for potential criminal intimidation, liable, slander and anything else, and at the very least should cost some bean counting scumbag many millions of dollars.

My wife is related to one of the most famous lawyers in Los Angeles-he would eat them for lunch on something like this. Kinda how I'm not flying at Eagle anymore, but am flying a G550.

Laughing all the way boys, laughing all the way.

I truly don't know the details of any of these recent firings, and I don't personally know any of the pilots involved. I don't mean any offense to you, but what should I believe here, an anonymous poster on a discussion board, or the last few years' worth of behavior towards the pilot group from management? It just seems more likely that management is attempted to intimidate pilots to stop complaining. Especially since two of the firings were of current or former union reps, and one of those reps was fired last year and it was proven that it was a bad firing, done for no cause, and the company was forced to admit wrong and give him back pay. This company has had a trust issue for a while now. I wish they would move to fix it instead of making it worse.
