To be fair, bingo fuel is a CA calculation unless you were just messing with him because he wanted to upgrade.
Whenever I calculate a BINGO, I also have the FO come up with one. It serves to check my math, make sure we are in agreement, and to be sure that they have been taught how. If they can't do it, fine, great learning moment. CRM.

No one needs to be making someone feel small for gaps in their knowledge or experience. Teach and move on so they can learn and move on.

It's just bingo fuel. You're not calculating the trajectory of a rocket. If it gets to that feeling where you're getting the warm and fuzzys you divert, I don't wait till the hundredth pound ticks down.
