They do have AQP but they have a very high drop out rate. When you are hiring hundreds of pilots from GA and not giving them a fair chance , that's crappy training. I have heard countless real stories of pilots who drop out at SkyWest and do better elsewhere. We have drop outs too but its far lower than the others, especially SKW. Considering I did not experience Skywest myself I guess it was wrong to comment, but I hear it all over the place.
That’s hardly “crap training”. Having said that, yes ExpressJet training is very good. |

There’s nothing wrong with an airline holding pilots to standards. People’s loved ones are on these planes.l.
I actually find it pathetic how often the questions of “are they AQP?” or “do they give as many extra sims as needed?” get asked nowadays. Extra help for somebody who has hit a snag is definitely something that should happen, but endless hand-holding is NOT a sign of “good training”. Good training provides you with the tools you need to succeed. If you can’t hack it, or just suck at this.......at some point, I’m happy to say you shouldn’t have this job. I don’t have a spotless record from my time at XJT but I also pulled my $hit together immediately following any snags. The washout rate was plenty high when I went through initial, and those guys were given second chances before that happened. Training was excellent. Some people need 3 or 4 attempts to pass. We shouldn’t call those people airline pilots. |

That’s far from anything anecdotal. There’s nothing wrong with an airline holding pilots to standards. People’s loved ones are on these planes. Air Wisconsin is no gem yet they do hold their new pilots to high standards as well.

So you have some first hand experience with SkyWest training? I know several pilots who have been through it and all said it was a horrible experience.
Really, do tell? Would love to hear the details. |

Dude - you have no idea what you are talking about. SKYW offers some of the beat training in the industry. |

This has nothing to do with standards. It has to do with learning curves. A good training program will not dump a pilot because they need a few extra SIM sessions.
