It's probably not a surprise to many but XJT came in second to last place in a new airline drinking water study.
https://www.dietdetective.com/airline-water-study-2019/

Onboard Water Health Score: 0.56 / 5
Aircraft Fleet Size: 128
Total ADWR Violations (2012-2019): 430
Avg # of ADWR Violations per Aircraft: 3.36
Total Water Samples Testing Positive For E. Coli (2012-2019): 12
Total Water Samples Testing Positive For Coliform (2012-2019): 679
Comments: Abysmal. ExpressJet had the highest average number of violations. The airline also had a very high number of lavatory water samples testing positive for E. coli and violations for failure to conduct routine monitoring, failure to perform required corrective actions and failure to collect repeat or follow-up samples of a coliform-positive result.

Don't drink the coffee.

Well skywest is gone so lets get these planes cleaned up and disinfected more often. Not so horrible over a 12 year study though.

Seeing as every airline lav I’ve ever been in has said “water non-potable,” this doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

Don’t even wash your hands with that water.

I don't know about other airplanes water system but in the ejet, water for coffee goes through a filter, water for lav comes straight from the tank, which is randomly inspected every so often for bacterias.

Put some whiskey in it, that should kill everything.

Doesn't matter. NEVER drink anything made with airplane water. Consider this: Watch how they service the water tank. Often the hose is dragged across the ramp. It can collect all kinds of stuff including gas, oil, blue juice, etc.

How often is the filter changed? Of course it comes from a tank unless you have a catchment system
