This.

As it stands there’s only two other viable bases if EWR shrinks or closes. IAH and ORD. TYS has a handful of lines and ORD is senior. For myself there’s no way I’ll be commuting to reserve in ORD or two legging it 1,000 miles to get to work. That’s absolutely silly.

I think myself and others would be fine with an IAD base or at least something within a shorter distance. Nobody could have predicted a base that was open for 20 yrs to be shrinking or going away altogether.

This is a completely different hiring environment from 20 or 30 years ago. HR understands if someone doesn’t want to uproot their whole family to move from the Northeast to the South for a regional airline gig.. Now if someone jumps from airline to airline you got something.

I hired a consultant for the Aviate interview. They had a laundry list if things to 100% avoid discussing. This was a big one. Did you hire a consultant or just “wing it?” I’d love to see some stats on this.

Yes, Cage Marshall for the “tell me about a time” portion and Sheppard Air for technical questions.

Personally felt the interview went well but got the TBNT...

Will be consulting with CM about how to proceed should I decide to move as well as inform others so they don’t find themselves in the same situation.

He’s right—Aviate (CPP) is a joke. All new FOs should seriously look at AA WO regionals which guarantees you a slot at AA. Any pilot that says a lateral move is a bad idea is a big liar. They are not even pilots, but likely management personnel trying to scare you into staying at an airline that has no future. Are you willing to sacrifice millions of dollars in exchange for a small chance of going to United? United is using you as a sucker pilot and American treats you like a professional pilot. That’s the truth.

I completely understand why someone would leave for a w/o. The OP was talking about leaving fir Republic, which has no guaranteed career progression either. That doesn’t make any sense.

I would say if you do succeed with the Aviate interview. You have a very high chance of flying for United and MUCH faster than flow. Even if it takes 4 years instead of 2 years still less then half the time of a flow.

The initial interview with UA w/ the Aviate program gives you about the same chances of flying for them as someone off the street. An “offer” after initial interview secures nothing because you can still get turned down for unknown reasons during the final review/second interview phase as is happening to a lot of folks. Just read all the UA regional forums.

This was my point as well. I think if you are going to leave a WO makes sense. There are plenty of options for bases in the NE.

On this note, I wonder when exactly they do the background check. I know they don’t do it before inviting you to the interview. I got my invite within a day of submitting my app. I also got the phone call saying I was successful only 3 business days after the interview. They may or may not have time to run the background check and compare to the application in that amount of time. I have heard of people that went through the entire process of applying, interviewing and getting the offer within a couple of weeks.

My point is, you can guarantee they have to do one within 60 days of your class date. That’s law. They probably don’t spend the money to do one before interviewing/offering you the job.

I am in the corner of most of the guys getting turned down in final review have something popping up during the background check. Their attendance, etc. probably has nothing to do with it.

You do realize this is Subodh or one of his cronies. Right? Make sense now?

His post history paints a very anti-pilot picture. Tries to be sneaky by throwing in a few posts that are slightly anti-company. Probably pretty painful.
