Could you explain the legal rest option. I'm not familiar with that one.

If the off time between the end of your last duty period and the deviation flight you choose is not a legal rest, then you are technically in an extended duty period. Therefore, you're authorized FC travel (a version of the 11.5 hour same duty period DH).

Go to the hotel, get some rest, but not 8 hours from :30 after block in from your FX trip and 1 hour prior to your dh. You're still on the same duty period from the start of your FX trip.

Man, don't know how I've been missing that one. That's a lot easier to do than making sure I exceed an 11.5 hour duty day.

One other point is that this option is available after any trip, not just a backend DH. Block into domicile on the last leg of a non-DH trip and you have the same option if you have extra travel bank available. I did this all the time in ANC on Alaska Airlines to SEA.

As long as you don't lie "if" they ask you will be fine.

If your DH is already first class or business, do you need to fill out the upgrade form to book your deviation ticket in first class or business?

You still need to make sure you exceed 11+30. No legal rest period and the duty clock keeps running.

Not quite sure what you're asking. If you're deviation deadhead qualifies to be booked in First, then you don't have to fill out the upgrade form. Just book first.

If the schedule deadhead is first class, that doesn't mean you can automatically get a first class deviation deadhead. You just get a larger bank because of the first class scheduled deadhead.

The upgrade form is for your deviation deadhead ticket when it only qualifies for coach but you want to fly in first class. You pay the difference out of your own pocket.
