There are many situations where the pilot can follow the rules and still be reimbursed by the company. To be reimbursed, activity must simply be within 3 days of a FedEx event. To Jumpseat home for your personal benefit and not at the company behest, absolutely permitted. To be reimbursed by the company for taxes and fees, good planning.

Back to the subject....
I have used AA several times internationally. Are you going from the US or into the US? Going out you can use the normal listing system and will be taken care of, but talking to the captain always helps.
At an overseas station the ticket agents do not usually understand "jumpseat." You have to throw out "OMC" to get them in the right area of the computer. Be prepared to show your medical and license as well. Taxes can be an issue, but in my experience they seem to be at the discretion of the gate agent. Meaning, you might be able to skip by for free.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Some places, like inbound to Nicaragua $5, Dominican Rep $30ish, collect $ for "space available j/s pilots" even though your flight originates in US.
