Hey international travel people! I (S5) am trying to figure out if we can jumpseat on Lufthansa or any other international carriers? I am trying to fly from ORD to Stuttgart, Germany (STR) and I think that would be the easiest route via Frankfurt. I looked at DL and they don't have anything going back the day I need. United as well...I think. Lufthansa however does. Everything goes into airports that are 2 hours away from STR and that wont work for me. I want to do this as cost effectively as I can, but unfortunately I don't know how to jumpseat in Europe at all! I have DL and UA bennies, but the UA will cost me an arm and a leg I am sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you have a ZED fare for LH, they can (at the discretion of the captain) give you a jumpseat. A hostess jumpseat most likely. Haven't heard of them letting you sit up front, although I know some airlines in Europe have allowed it. It will cost you a ZED ticket on LH, however.

I have family in the STR area, and United's flights aren't daily. Best bet is to get over to Frankfurt, then buy (if you didn't do so before) a airline ticket, which is about a 45 minute flight, or a train ticket which takes about 2 1/2 hours. The last time I went, in October, it was cheaper to buy the airline ticket. Delta is the only other US airline that goes there.

You were pretty wrong there.

You need to buy a ZED with LH and if the flight is full you list for jumpseat at the gate. You will most likely be put in a FA jumpseat or directly behind the cockpit in the crew rest jumpseat.
Singapore Airlines are great they have sent reps to the ALPA meeting in DC to talk about how they can set up JS in the Asia region. While its a long way off its good to see a company like SQ showing support.
