Consolidation???
#11
To again ask the question...
Anybody know what happens if you don't get your hours during consolidation? My last IOE leg was a checkride so I have 150 days since my type ride to get my hours. However; I'm not PDO bumping and I'm not canceling my vacation...I just want to know what happens when I don't get my hours because...I'm not going to get them.

If the required 100 hours of Line Operating Flight Time are not completed within 120 days, that time may be extended to 150 days provided on or before the 120th day:
- The pilot satisfactorily completes Refresher Training,
- or
- The pilot satisfactorily completes a supervised Line Operating Flight with a Line Check Airman [FAR 121.434 (h)(4)(ii)].
After that, I believe it's a Consolidation Reset Sim.

About 8 years ago when I was last consolidating, the schedulers told me to submit PDO bump requests while on reserve after 10 a.m. the day prior after they have made the sick call assignments for the next day. A call to the scheduler beforehand to explain is not a bad idea.
Also, talk to the person you want to bump. Don't just submit a bump without the other person knowing about it. Have had that happen twice. Usually people will gladly get bumped. However, that person may be on that trip for a specific reason (visiting family, friends, wedding etc.). If it's a deadhead, that person may need the bank money to cover deficits elsewhere. Doesn't do commuters without a crashpad any good to get stuck in domicile midweek for a day.

What happens next and the protocol may have changed but you go back in the box for another checkride. As I recall, I believe I got one day of training and then the ride. This ride covers all the basics but was not as intense as the actual type ride.
Once you have completed this new checkride this will resets your checkride date and you will now be on either the new 9 month cycle or the old 6 month cycle, from this new date depending on your airplane. MD-11 I believe are still on the six month cycle but don’t quote me on that. You also now have 120 days to finish your consolidation. Talk to your IOE scheduler and they should be able to give you the details. Good luck.
