Not defending the new policy coming down, but I think stuff like a known long taxi and an expected non optimum altitude is exactly what the dispatchers will be expected to add fuel for, and not just add a pad just because.

New e-mail from another VP today.

"You'll be hearing from your management soon about ways your specific department can help increase fuel efficiency."

Admittedly, I am taking a cynical point of view to this whole fuel savings initiative. I am a practical person. If fuel can be saved and safety is not compromised, then I’m for it.

That being said, I reflect back to when this fuel sense program was started. After millions of dollars was saved because of the pilot participation, what did we get out of it? An atta boy. Yippie! Meanwhile, the higher ups received nice bonuses for making it happen while the pilot group sunk into 4a2b.

Fast forward to today. We are getting hammered with statement after statement on how fuel can be saved. While I have no inside information, I’m pretty confident that the current higher ups will again receive bonuses if $xxx amount of fuel savings is achieved. And what to we get out of it? Realistically, nothing.

I’m not suggestion we “ stick it” to the company. But it sure would be nice to get something other than hub turn pizza, being told you’ll have to grieve it, or telling us your the finest pilots in the world.

For what we do helping the company save money, we deserve better.

It'll be interesting to see what is presented at the mandatory Fuel meetings for LCAs next month.

Default Profit sharing

profit sharing + procedure = compliance. It works for SouthWest.
