ALPA Dues Reconcilliation
Anyone else getting these letters, saying that I “underpaid my dues” last year??? Through some most excellent accounting, the financial geniuses at ALPA (probably in close ties with the retirement bubbas) found that they didn’t charge me enough for my glossy magazine, so now they have to take more money to fund their “off-site” meetings and order $300 bottles of wine. I get it that the union is a necessity, but I’m getting pretty fed up with their money grubbing nonsense.

I owe $13. I know if the dues reconciliation isn't paid you become a member "not in good standing" after some finite amount of time. It would be tempting to not pay it since I am very unhappy with our Union, but it is not worth the heartache that would accompany such a measure.

Not in Good Standing is clearly a way to be shamed into submission ....

Sadly, it states in our contract that it must be paid, as previously said. Funny how the union is on top of things like this, but seems to be lagging in areas like 4.a.2.b, contract negotiations (and the associated shortcomings of depleting our “war chest”), and what a “notional” bid is. Yep. These are the folks I want negotiating my retirement plan

***UPDATE***. So I called ALPA to b!tch about this nonsense of recalculating my dues “shortage”. I got a voicemail, and two emails stating that there was “an issue with the database and the programming” that caused them to think i had underpaid my 2017 dues. They were extremely apologetic and assured me that I am in good standing and don’t owe any more money for 2017. They must have “Top Men” working on all their problems. If anyone received a letter saying that they want more $$ for 2017 dues, I’d call membership and tell them you want this researched. Ridiculous that we have to go through this......

Better than the CO. You would have had the money taken out of your check and you could fight a losing battle to get it back....
